[META] - Be aware - recent influx here of bot managed karma farming accounts

Pinned

These types of accounts will be banned and added to the r/UniversalScammerList, under moderator discretion/ Please report them to us!

Example. This user made several attempts to borrow here: https://redd.it/9hs66v

Make sure to:

Search here: r/TheseFuckingAccounts for their username, both used in a title or post body there. Automoderator creates a quick link to search for this in every REQ post's author (called Spam History)

Look at account age and karma amount for red flags

  • Old account but only a little bit of recent activity?

  • Commenting on a high karma repost?

  • Other examples please comment below!

Google search their comments, like this, and see if it's repeated almost word for word anywhere (look at the 3rd search result). Usually these accounts steal comments (usually top comments) from older original posts and recreate the comments in another bot's repost

Search their karma earned over time, look for big valleys or big spikes, and big periods of no activity

Search their picture submissions to see if they're reposts (please tell me of other repost searching methods!)

Consider installing this bookmarklet to easily highlight users with karma levels possibly indicating farming

Make sure they are located where they say they are, and aren't using a VoIP number https://www.phonevalidator.com/index.aspx

Also beware of lenders.

I just had 3rd lender ask all my information and i provide it and they back out but have my information. It is pretty scary to know a random has my information now.

That's kind of scary... not gonna lie.

I normally do the phone verification method, phonevalidator . Com. To track the location and their address.

Thank you! Added above

And also you can do a reverse image search on the picture/id/ verification that they've provided. And just simply google their full name on google and everything will comeout.

That's more of a general vetting process, but a good idea nonetheless. Mostly here I'm talking about a recent wave of accounts posting here that are karma farmed with bots

Hello, your comment has been automatically removed because your account does not meet our account-age/karma requirement. Your account must be a minimum of 90 days old and have 1000 karma in order to post a comment. If this is a loan, it will be removed from LoansBot due to non-compliance. Do not message the moderators for an exception, and do not directly message lenders you've not worked with before (Rule 5). Moderators don't make any exceptions to the karma/age limits. EVER. Please do not modmail us about an exception[4]

Might I suggest to lenders to check borrowers post history for drug-related subreddits?

I saw this on the Assistance sub. Someone asking for money and their post history shows they were camping and getting high for a week before.

I am mostly a read-only user, so much of those applies to me. Like, carma spikes (one lucky joke post made it to me), low recent activity (was without internet, then broke my laptop). Damn, at least I'm not some scammer or flagged for stuff, lol

agreed. I am the same. I have periods where I am online a lot and others where life just gets busy

The chrome bookmark tool that does the age karma requirement is also kinda helpful. I don't remember the name of it though.

What can I do about unsolicited private messages begging me for loans?

I'm trying to be good faithed and help out people on this subreddit but when people scam and dont follow the rules it's a huge offput to even want to accept requests here.

Report them via modmail. We will then provide them a warning

You'd still get your loans defaulted on even if they meet the criteria you're looking for. I've gotten denied loans multiple times just because I had some "Karma farming - posts deleted" that someone brought up and quoted on my older r/borrow posts but failed to see my other posts looking for a job, suggesting I had good intentions. How are you supposed to get a loan if you never had loan history before? Maybe I'm just salty because I subscribed to this forum and hoped to really get help through here but instead got it through somewhere else. Anyways I'm glad to think I don't have to depend on something like this anymore.
