[1719] The Kettle Knight.

Fantasy/Short Story

Hello DestructiveReaders. This will be my first-time requesting critique here.

I made this short story for a writing prompt on r/fantasywriters where the challenge was to write a shory with a child protagonist. It features the child version of the MC of the book I’m writing. I only started writing as a hobby last year and I’ve having fun trying to improve my skill at the craft. This story I feel is a good representation of where I’m at as a writer. I’m hoping that by asking for critique here I’ll be able get a better understanding of my strengths and weaknesses. Allowing me to work on improving them.

Here’s where I have my doubt in my own writing. I’m quite an underwriter. I know it’s often a good thing to be concise, but I worry if should go into more detail at times instead of quickly moving on to the next thing. I find my descriptions lacking, not as colorful as they could be.

The characters are the most important thing for me in a story. Did you understand, and care for them in this story? Beyond these points I’m asking for a general critique. Line-edits are also welcome. English is not my first language, but I feel I’m decent at it.

Here are my critiques. I hope these meet RDR’s standards.

Thank you for your time and I hope you enjoy reading my story.

Edit: 9 Oct. I made a bunch of changes based upon the feedback I've gotten. I fixed incomplete sentences, made a few things clearer, and added additional details to the story. I still want add a little more and look for other things to fix, but these should be the majority of changes.
