Meatbag
Heartbeat
Flees from my chest
And settles behind my eyes, pounding,
leaving my abdomen
empty
No, full
Of semisolids like
Jell-o
Or that stuff that hardens from goop
To hard-packed sand
When you hit it.
(Ooblek--
That’s what it was called, I
remember now, making it in the sink.
Mom’s disapproval clear but
Unvocalized.)
Shifting in my seat
Calms the reverberation in my skull
(For a moment)
but sends the matter behind my sternum into my bones, my
Ribs are electrified, phasing in and out of
Usefulness
Purpose, or
Really anything beneficial at all, until
I want to remove them.
They’re taking up space and
Not doing much good
Anyway

Hi, I'm completely new to this and relatively new to poetry in general! I read through the conventions in the sidebar, but please let me know if I've violated any of the conventions of the sub. Also, could anyone send me a quick explanation of how to indent text for these posts (if you're already providing feedback)? That would be really helpful for further poetic pursuits.
