Three words

Can describe my emotions:

I love you.

Four words can make my thoughts excel:

I care about you.

Five words can detail my meaning earnestly:

I’d like you to stay.

But which of seventeen-thousand

Can I raise, relay, or rephrase

To say more

Or less

Than two:

I’m sorry.

And what’s the difference

Between crunched up fists

And crunched up eyelids

When I haven’t the gaul

Or the wherewithal

Or the sense

To say it

But once.

So I guess I’ll sit behind my wall

And wish I didn’t know

That the longer I sit here and stow

The harder it is to make this citadel

Just fall
