Samsung midrange or budget phones have always been poor for gaming. You should have went for a xiaomi midrange instead if you want the best gaming performance.
Some games are simply too much for the hardware, in that case wait for the game to improve.
The "resolution" is exactly that and can improve performance.
"max performance" I guess is "hw performance". A few steps below the max clock of the cpu and gpu, is the game clock (0). Hw performance raises the CPU offset, it could range from for example -4 to +5. 5 might be 1 clock before the max clock. The GPU clock, unless it has been changed, cannot be raised and stays at 0 (ok actually can but not simple). By offsetting the cpu to a positive value the temperature could be raised and lower the GPU, which will end up lower, could be a problem if the gpu is a bottleneck. The cpu will be higher at least for peak performance.
Battery saving is basically if the screen is touched, the cpu minimum speed doesn't go up anymore. With battery saving on, it only raises the cpu speed when ... for example 80% of that speed is in use. The cpu is less efficient at higher speeds (2x isn't 2x, but much more, the voltage has to be raised or the cpu will crash) , using more power and generating more heat. But the raising when the cpu use is 80% takes time and is generally slower, so it's raised by touch. Other than that it should be the same.
