Belle of the Balls
Note: In Irish Gaelic, "Samhain" is pronounced "Sow-in" with the "ow" like in "cow"
.
She’s sleepy now.
She needs Her rest.
She hears the Old Man’s cries.
She'll lay Her head upon His chest
And shut Her weary eyes.
King Chronos keeps a faithful watch and carries out His rite.
He cloaks Her with a blanket that is made of purest white.
He watches as Her breath grows cold and holds Her hardened flesh.
He listens to Her ragged sighs and mends Her tattered dress.
She slumbers now.
She needs Her rest.
The balls are almost here.
She has to get Her energy.
Eostre’s voice is near.
When She awakes, She’ll shake the frost out of Her spiky hair.
She’ll don Her emerald dress and scatter flowers everywhere.
She’ll dance and dance with all Her might up to the Autumn rain.
She’ll dance three balls ‘til Samhain’s calls put Her asleep again.
