Perspective
I envied the stars once -
Gazed upon their shine,
Triangulated their great distance;
Thought them rivals mine.
I looked down upon the mountains,
Their peaks a-gleaming white;
Heights mortal to many men,
Yet unworthy of my sight.
But now, a little grown,
From this vantage I see;
Scenes which seemed my own,
In fact far beyond me.
But now, at times,
The grass seems a forest;
The doorbell distant chimes,
My eyes ever downcast.
Once, I felt so small,
A dwarf in giants' company;
Watched them play ball-
Dodged when it neared me.
Once, I regarded with awe,
All who taught and lead;
Thought of their having flaw
Scarce entered my head.
But now, a little wiser,
I don't hesitate t'approach;
Bar the occasional miser -
I'm no cockroach!
But now, at times,
I hear myself pour scorn,
At the slightest sign;
My heroes as leaves forlorn.

My first time posting something new! This poem lay half done for months and with the encouragement and prodding of this community to learn to rewrite and revise I finally managed to finish it!
