malnourished heart with lack of love
She left her door unlocked last night
Hoping her savior would walk in and hold her tight
Wishing people understood
That when she pushes them away
She needs them the most
A coping mechanism that she uses
To feed her brain, but not her soul
One by one the cherries fall from the tree outside in her garden
Her washed out soul watches through the window as the ones that have fallen, fade away into the ground
Every time she opens her door, she sees the most beautiful cherries fall
Not even betrayal can describe this fascination
When her door is shut, the beautiful cherries hang peacefully
She has learned to just look
Not from the neighbors, but from her own experience
The neighbors with the strongest tree trunks rarely experience this
But since her tree is fragile and unstable, she can’t expect another outcome
Passing people look at her, her smiling face pressed against her bedroom window
They wave and smile
She waves and smiles back
She knows that she can’t stand up, she must sit still, only showing her face
If she ever showed her skinny soul and malnourished heart with lack of love, they would be terrified
They would not want to smile and wave
She must sit still, only show her beautiful face
She has always appreciated this brief interaction
If people smile and wave too often, she becomes attached and her soul gets even more crushed when they leave

I reread this at least four times and each time I had a new take on what it may mean. I feel like, to me at least, it is the creative soul trapped inside the corporeal and social manacles of life, that is forever staring out but not being a physical part of the life and environment it is witnessing. I relate in ways I can't quite describe. Thank you.
