Spongy Brake Pedal
2005 Suzuki Aerio General question from a humble shadetree: This Aerio has ABS w/ rear drums. Chasing a spongy brake pedal:
- Replaced wheel cylinders and rebuilt the original calipers.
- Bled all wheels, no sign of bubbles.
- No leaks, no loss of fluid.
- Then I notice the rears will lock up on a hard stop, so as a test I pinched off front-right hose. Somewhat improved pedal feel!
- I observe that wheel bearing has a tiny amount of play AND the caliper bolts are slightly loose.
Did this cause my problem? After fixing this brake, the pedal is still not great but is strong enough to engage ABS on dry pavement again.

Spongy is almost always air somewhere in the system
Okay. Is there a different procedure to bleed the ABS module or the proportioning valve, or should I just keep pumping the pedal until I flush all the lines out.
Some cars need to plug into an scan tool to activate the abs pump for bleeding. But I'd think it might be worth another bleed or a gravity bleed. Have had stubborn ones before where I've had to jack up the rear and bleed them, then jack the front to bleed those.
Did you do that because bubbles tend to go to the highest point?
Correct.
