Casualty
You never told me what to do when you were taken for the war.
I’ve waited in your room; I don’t know what for.
When you told me you’d be home,
you must’ve been deceived.
It’s been years since I last heard you,
so my head must take the lead.
Together we were something to give to God,
A gift of love with laughter, the latter’s probably been shot.
As much as it does hurt me
to not wait for you.
The space between remains so great,
and I am now so few.
Goodbye to you my dearest, wave from far away,
Dead or not, now and forever without you I will lay.
I say this over boxes
that now fill my attic.
I only think of you,
likely buried in a barracks.
Time will rot until rusted doors will take no keys
One last time I think of you and fall down to my knees.
