Bluebird
All I wanted was my own bluebird.
To have in my heart
And so her wings can flutter with intent
to love me, and I can watch
Maybe she would take me away
don't we all deserve to be swept off our feet?
But when I got my bluebird
I fed her stale breadcrumbs
While I told her I loved her
I lit cigarettes in her face
And blew smoke
right down her beautiful lungs
I filled her cup with alcohol
Old vodka no one would drink
And watched her mighty colors fade
Like the rest of my clothes
I wasted no time choking her
Making sure every last one of my fingers got a taste
I loved my bluebird that I waited so long for
Like I love all of my things
