when your vocal eq looks like this, you know it's time to take a break

AB after every eq move
The EQ curve that says "fire the tracking engineer"
This. 100% this.
Or buy a better microphone...
Or get a better performer...
Can't polish a turd
i beg to differ
It’s a shiny turd, but it’s still a turd
You can even add flavouring to it, but it's still a turd
Some people like turds
I mean you can most certainly try.
Will still be a turd, though. It's not the engineer's job to make the singer sound good; The singer's job is to sound good. The engineer's job is to make the recording of that singer sound good.
Yeah at college our lecturer always told us an engineers job is to accurately capture a bands performance - so like not make the band sound better than they actually are
Wait pro Q has a keyboard function???!
Yep. It's not as helpful as you'd imagine it would be but it's a nice feature to have.
i find it really useful if you want to tune drums to the songs key. For example with a snare, you can see where the fundamental tone and the first harmonics place in the scale and then use a pitch shifter earlier in the chain to get it in key. Then you can decide how much of tonality you want from that snare with the eq.
ya that sneaky button at the left bottom side

so you can eq in key.If it's marked, there is shown up a note with tune +/- below the frequency. And you can enter there a note too get the band to that frequency. for example:
296.10Hz D4 +14
or
2217.5 Hz C#7 +00

My favorite part is how the entire curve is attenuating -3dB across the spectrum. Why not just turn it down a bit?
I relate to this a lot lol.
Same with live. I’ve fired up consoles and seen stuff like that done by inexperienced techs too many times. Usually an indication that something is wrong elsewhere in the system.
If it starts happening to me I zero out and start over.
At this point I restore to default and go the fuck to sleep because it’s usually 3 in the morning
This!
There's that weird time from like 1-3am where time stops, everything is still and you are CONVINCED this the EQmive that's gonna make the vocal.
That 1-3am time is also when LA2A's sound like 1176's, EQs don't work under 3dB increments and suddenly the concept of phase has left your ears.
Weird times.
Maybe it was just too loud?;)
Rip phase.
When your faders are broken
If my EQ looks like that on literally anything I start to become suspect.
If it sits, it fits! Fuck what a graph looks like. No analogue board had a graph. You turn knobs til it sounds good. Change my mind \m/>
Basically you slowly decided the vocals sound better -6db down.
Y'all muthafuckas need Soothe. Looks like that guy was desperately trying to pull out harsh frequencies.
Ugh, been waiting for a sale. Been wanting it since I learned about it a couple months ago.
what even
Looks pretty normal to me!
Don’t even have Pro-Q3 yet, bro?
And this is why you dont mix under the influence
This hurts ... when you come back the next day and see something like this and you're just like "What the F*** was yesterday-me doing?"
this was exactly what happened to me this morning
Or there is something off with the mic and/or the room
It's definitely always the mic and room!! At least that's my go-to excuse :)
Yesterday me can be a real dumbass sometimes.
If we invent time travel while everyone else goes back to look at dinosaurs or ancient Greece, audio engineers would go back one week to kick their own ass haha.

Oh, how I love mixing something for 2 hours until it's absolutely perfect, and then listening back to it a day later and almost vomiting out of my ears from how bad the mix is.
