31 Days of Vince Russo "Special Matches" in 1999/2000 WCW - #6: Graveyard Match (Vampiro vs. The Demon) from Bash at the Beach PPV on July 9, 2000.

The sixth entry features Vampiro and The Demon in the Graveyard Match from Bash at the Beach on July 2000.

Here is a link to the Graveyard Match.

This match was rated minus 2 stars by Dave Meltzer. However, not as many people remember this match from Bash at the Beach 2000 due to the Hogan/Jarrett World Title match shenanigans later in the night. Regardless of that, the graveyard match was pretty bad on every level.

Here are the rules for the graveyard match. The match starts in the graveyard. The winner is the first wrestler to arrive to the arena and enter the ring.

Before I get into the match itself, here’s some brief context:

Once upon a time, Vampiro and The Demon were members of The Dark Carnival stable. The Demon would leave The Dark Carnival and eventually draw the ire of Vampiro. After a lot of mind games by Vampiro, teases of Vampiro being set on fire in a casket by The Demon, and a brief kidnapping of The Demon’s fiancé, Asya, a graveyard match was agreed to at the Bash at the Beach PPV.

Now, onto the match itself.

The Demon, Asya, and WCW referee Charles Robinson (and at least two cameramen) are in the graveyard looking for Vampiro. The Demon is holding a sword (which is burning at the end) in his right hand. The Demon plants the sword in the ground and eventually finds Vampiro in a tree.

The Vampiro jumps down but doesn’t hit The Demon. The two start to wrestle and hit each other with tree branches while Charles Robinson shines a flashlight toward them. Vampiro then leaves The Demon laying in an open grave and takes Asya away with him. The Demon pulls himself out of the open grave, then goes off looking for Asya with Charles Robinson.

The Demon finds Asya on the edge of the pond. Seconds later, Vampiro rises from the pond and drags The Demon in with him. They splash around for a little bit before Vampiro tries to drown The Demon.

Vampiro walks off with Asya again while Charles Robinson fishes The Demon out of the pond. Tony Schiavone says, “we’ve gone to new boundaries now.” Couldn’t agree with him more. The Demon gives chase again and finds Asya lying on the ground. Vampiro comes out of a coffin and spits “that liquid” into The Demon’s face.

Vampiro asks if The Demon will join him. The Demon screams, “Never!” (Spoiler alert: Never turns out to be about 24 hours, as Vampiro has control over The Demon…for reasons?)

Vampiro then grabs a tombstone and smashes the tombstone over The Demon’s skull. Vampiro grabs The Demon’s limp body, puts it in the open casket, flips the open casket in an open grave, and tosses the sword into the grave. Later in the show, Vampiro gets to the arena and the ring for the win.

Vampiro is the only winner in this. Everyone else loses…The Demon, Asya, and the fans for watching this.
