So about that bit near the end of the FFXIV event...

Holy shit that new summon looks amazing! anyone wanna speculate on who it could be? I'm hoping it's a teaser for Shadowbringers, as the design is just way too cool for a throwaway summon. there unfortunately isn't any entry in the bestiary (same for Garuda) so the only info we have iirc is that it was defeated long ago and turned into a statue at the bottom of a canyon. not enough info to work it out as part of FFXV canon so that's why I'm going for the XIV appearance.

Well iggy claimed she was a messenger she might just be this reality’s version of Garuda

They mention that her name was lost to the times but she has now taken the name Garuda.

I doubt they will give us any other information or it being tied into 14.

I think we will see her make an appearance in FFXIV with noctus since he disappears, comes back and says he thinks he was "dreaming" ( Lighting says the same thing when she ends up in Ezorea)

I don't think it's tied to the shadowbringers expansion. But who knows. We had a Monster Hunter world collaboration event so anything is possible. Anyways so excited for the next expansion and Blue mage in early January!

I assumed it was just XVs version of Garuda. I can't wait to see what they do in XIV though.

It's pretty clearly a tie in with FF14 (it's a differently skinned Garuda or at least designed incredibly similarly). I'm guessing since we got her mark, we'll be able to randomly summon her as well in rest of the game (but it'll be subject to conditions and RNGesus as usual with the fickle gods/astrals).

The only lore-bit that is a bit ambiguous is that she's apparently a Messenger (one of the 24 mentioned in the Cosomogeny books), and yet she's a summonable astral/god. I guess she's similar to Gentiana, since you can summon Gentiana as well but she's technically considered a "Messenger"...and yet she's also an Astral. Apparently the "Messenger", "Astral", "God", and different body types (corporeal/meatsuit vs the astral forms which i guess are not actually physical?), all these terminologies are a little ambiguously defined. (I can also see why they want to keep it ambiguous, the more they try to define/explain it, the more likely that something is gonna be holey and contradict. it's better to just keep it ambiguous, since that means even if there's some kind of contradiction, it's not really a contradiction if the game never explained how its supposed to work :P)

alternatively, i think we're just thinking too hard about it.

She's just a messenger who took up Garuda's name, and I don't think she's a throwaway summon either. You get her mark, which would imply that she can be summoned again when certain conditions are met.
