To link 2 Xboxs you do need to have a crossover Ethernet cable. You can't just use any standard Ethernet cable.

I would never wrap them like that myself. I have a figure-8 system where i wrap round the handles. If i know i’m not using them for a while i hot glue it all together and store on top of my wardrobe.
If they get dusty i give them the once over with a suede brush and cream cleaner. Clean as a whistle
