Holiday-themed D&D intro with two 6 year-olds, a 3 year-old, and another dad

Game Tales

Had a great time today with the party that saved Kringlefest:

• Bow the Fighter- don’t let the two boot knives and the sword (or even the pickaxe) fool you, they’re just for show. He has a bag of apples he throws at his enemies... and sometimes his friends (he later gained some chips.. guess what his player was eating).

• Sweetie the Ranger- loves 3 things: searching for unicorns, her animal companion (a squirrel named Lily), and drawing on her character sheet.

• Christmas the Cleric: the reluctant healer, who sometimes wields a snow gun, and sometimes wanders off while his player goes to color.

• Beard the Wizard: the eagle-eyed fire mage and quiet powerhouse of the group. Melting snowmen, finding secret entrances, and torching toy soldiers are his jam.

Character sheets

Adventure: The Darkest Night

Rules adaptation+blank sheets. Disclaimer: I’m the author. Use it if you like, it’s just a way to play 5th Ed without modifiers. For older players just use 5th Ed/SRD5.

Adventure was a good length for the kids, spent a little time up front asking about who their characters were, what they were after, etc. Got the action rolling and they had some fun. The 3 year-old left to color half way through after blasting an evil snowman, but the older ones were well-engaged. All in all a nice little intro game for everyone.
