WOW just finished Words of Radiance...Stormlight now my new fav Sanderson series

I didn’t think anything could top Mistborn, with both Eras being absolutely fantastic. The Way Of Kings was amazing, but I wasn’t sure if it would reach the same heights of Mistborn. I WAS WRONG. Wow. Part 5 was INTENSE and I can’t wait for all the secrets of the Cosmere to be revealed! I just started Arcanum Unbounded and I’ll be diving into Oathbringer right after that. Can’t wait to be up to date, and eagerly awaiting Stormlight 4 with everyone else :D

Have you read Warbreaker?

It is, in a way, a prequel to some very important characters in Stormlight. It would be a bit of a change of pace to read it between WoR and Oathbringer, but I recommend that you read just the prologue here, and then glance over the last couple paragraphs of chapter 88 in WoR and see if you want to read the rest of it. (I think you will)

I have! It made me extremely happy reading the end of WoR!

You have a lot to look forward to in Oathbringer, and Edgedancer is a delight!

I LOVED Lift, so VERY excited to see what her and her awesomeness are up to!

The biggest downside to the SA is that they take him awhile (not surprisingly with how massive they are) to write and get out. Now that being said Brandon is still one of the fastest writers out there so it won't take too long! He just also writes so many different series at the same time.

Oh - they will!

People are mentioning Warbreaker because you'll learn a lot about >!Szeth's new sword!<. There are several more easter eggs to be found in Oathbringer for Warbreaker readers, particularly in one sequence of the book. The plot of Warbreaker doesn't directly impact Stormlight, but the world of Nalthis might give you some small insight on how things work on Roshar. Book is free on Brandon's website, but print versions are available in stores.

It's recommended, NOT required. If you don't read it just yet, any easter egg or crossover is just treated as an unsolved mystery, and there are many of those in the books already so it fits right in. Many readers go straight to Oathbringer, and then save the easter egg hunt for a re-read. Nothing wrong with that.

I'd say the more significant tie-in from Warbreaker is the new planet hopper, rather than what is in the spoiler text above. Either way, I would recommend Warbreaker first as well. It's excellent on it's own and helps strengthen Oathbringer/Cosmere continuity as a great bonus.

Even if I agreed with that, and I don’t, I typically prefer to let readers find that for themselves.

I would read Warbreaker too, becore Oathbringer.

Don't jump the gun. Words of Radiance is in my top 5 Sanderson books, but much to my dismay Oathbringer is at. the. very. bottom.

My good friend thinks I'm out of control for that, but I just felt that all the momentum built in the first two books was thrown out and I especially disliked how two of the main characters were developed, including my favorite.

Was it still a great book...yes, of course, this is Sanderson we're talking about here. You may love it, but just temper your expectations a bit, things are about to slooooowwwwwwwww downnnn.

I disagree entirely. Nothing wrong with having your own opinion, of course. But Oathbringer had the best climax of any Sanderson book so far imo.

I'd agree that the end was excellent, but the rising action felt tedious and filler-y for me.

For me I was amazed how every scene was fulfilling multiple purposes and how things were happening in part 1 that I wasn't anticipating until like book 4 or 5. To each their own I guess.

See that's interesting I loved it. I still think WoR was my favorite, however I still adore the changes in OB. It is a very different story now, the whole plot and intent has shifted after the events of WoR. So I didn't mind the tone change and pacing. I found every event in the story very interesting.

I think I'll enjoy Oathbringer much more on the 2nd read prior to Stormlight 4. Now that I know what it is, and have had time to process what comes, I'll be able to enjoy the ride more.

I'm a simple man, I see Wit and Shallan, I pop the like button. Totally got the Doctor banter material right there.

I upvoted because people should not be downvoting because of a difference in opinion. I understand what you're saying. I liked Oathbringer but I've seen some people in other communities I frequent that hated it. While I liked it, I definitely thought it was a step down from WoR.

Well. I seem to be in the minority for liking The Way of Kings more than Words of Radiance. I have a feeling I might like Oathbringer even less than WOR. The Books are still incredible but I keep my expectations under control now.

I disagree, Oathbringer is better than WOR to me. I don't really like Shallan.

Huh, Oathbringer is actually my favourite out of all of Sanderson's books yet.

Guess tastes will be tastes.
