Dairy-free & Eczema

Our doctor recommended going dairy-free for my 4.5 month old's eczema (also has silent reflux).

Just wondering about others' experiences with elimination. I'm aware it can take up to a total of 6-8 weeks for everything to be out of my system and his and for him to heal. But I'm wondering when others started to see improvement, specifically for eczema, and also if it gets worse before it gets better during the dairy detox. We have been dairy free for 2 weeks, but his eczema got worse starting last week.

I know people who had babies with eczema and dietary stuff helped. Bear in mind that dairy is just the most common. Personally going off dairy, gluten and soy for those couple of weeks is more efficient. They could have a differnt or multiple sensitivities. I am particularly wondering if your soy intake has increased without dairy.

I don't believe my soy intake has increased - I drink almond milk and use a soy free butter and cheese alternative. But I'm sure there was still soy in my diet. I decided to start this week eliminating soy and gluten as well. The doctor only mentioned dairy, but after some research I decided to eliminate soy and gluten as well. It's only been 3 days for those.

Watch for soy lecithin, it’s in so many processed foods!

I think that is a good decision.

My LO has sensitivity to dairy, which cleared up after going off dairy within 1 week. Improvement was seen within 2 days (and she was 2 or 3 weeks old when I tried). She didn't have eczema, just rashes on her bottom and green poo, and she'd spit up. I went over to almond milk.

It was after this that I noticed if I ate soy sauce or something else high in soy, she'd spit up and be extra cranky. So maybe be careful of soy. What u/Szyz said made me realise maybe you are now drinking soy milk?

I'm using almond milk, but also decided to cut out soy starting this week, do it's only been 3 days.

Good luck! These things are so hard to figure out.

Thanks! I know, I just want an answer!

We were referred to an allergist, but the wait is 4-9 months. He might even grow out of it by then!

Wow that's a really long wait!! Are you in the UK as well?? I was actually thinking of going private for an allergist simply because I want to know what I can do about her egg situation (she got hives when I gave her eggs last time... months ago...) and our GP was just like, sounds like she's allergic to eggs. Uhm yes. Okay. Very helpful.
