When I arm mic to record, it raises all my audio levels from where they were

Vegas 15 - UNRESOLVED

Vegas 15. Title is it. I don't know what's happening. I'm finishing a video I started a few months ago.... just need to change a couple voiceovers.

When I click to arm the mic, it raises all my audio levels. If I disarm the mic they don't go back to what they were. They stay up. There's no settings which visibly change--- the audio is just much louder. I have to lower the individual track volumes by like 12-13db to get it to sound like it did before.

I'm using a Blue Yeti mic but I just tested it with my bluetooth headset mic.... did the same thing.

Help! Am I going crazy? Must be some simple thing I don't know about. Arming the mic didn't do this before.

Ar you opening up a project created in an older version of Vegas?

I haven't experienced that before so unfortunately I don't have a permanent solution.

I suggest downloading and recording the couple of voice overs you need with Audacity. It's free. Record, export as .wav, drag and drop in Vegas, trim and move around as needed.

Thanks so much for replying. It's a project I edited in Vegas 15. Same exact setup I used to get this far with it. I think I will have to do what you're saying. (It's just harder because I can't watch the video roll by while talking.)

I also opened a new project I just did two days ago which didn't need voiceover, and my mics caused the same thing. I'm stumped!

I just wanted to tell you how this came out. So I had to reduce my other audio track volumes by 15 decibels to get the levels back to what they were before pressing the "arm mic" button. Also, after pressing the Arm Mic button, the Master Bus slider didn't affect the audio anymore at all.

So I did all the new voiceover stuff I needed. I had to raise the volume of my new voiceovers by like 5 decibels to get them consistent with the old stuff.

I finished it all and closed the file. Had dinner. Just reopened the file and now all the original audio is too soft, the Master Bus slider does work, and my new audio is similarly quiet like the previous. I guess I'll just have to re-raise the volumes the amount I lowered them before and it'll be like it was originally.

So weird. I wonder when I start a new project if my Arm Mic button is going to have the same effect. As I mentioned, it did it with a small project I just did two days ago as well.

Gremlins in my Vegas, or something!
