I might be doing forgiveness meditation wrong

I think this is in the right place... I have meditated using a Jack Kornfield forgiveness guided meditation, and it’s giving me anxiety. I don’t feel like there’s anything I’ve done that requires forgiveness from me, or anything others have done that requires me to forgive them. I’ve done things I’m not thrilled with, but I try to acknowledge and learn from them. Similarly, I don’t think people are mean to me and require forgiveness. Sometimes people don’t know better or they’re having a bad day or whatever. Does this make me wise, or am I in denial? What have other people’s experiences been with forgiveness?

Anxiety can be explained as witheld emotions, emotions with the handbreak on while the motor is still running. Even if we don't rationally think that people have wronged us or that we have wronged particulary, we can still have emotions of that kind. Probably they are key to this meditation just as in the brahmaviharas. Just calmly and with curiosity see if there are any traces of reactions or snippets of thoughts if that sort. Or this might not be you best practice right now.
