Just wondering if I'm alone on this

Hope none of you go snowflake on me and shoot me down for this, I just want to respectfully request your true opinions on this and see how many others think the same way, if there are any

does anyone else not like the fact that we are included in the LGBT? I see why it was a necessity in the past but i only think it does more harm than good in present day. i am not homophobic in any way, have a gay family member very close to my heart whole shebang blah blah blah. i also like that we have allies and that they have more in turn. but there are so, so many people who think transgender is just super gay. especially in third world countries, 70% of people i meet dont even know what transgender is! you must be thinking yeah yeah its third world but uh, we do have TVs

we always emphasise that being transgender is a GENDER orientation and not a sexual orientation but we're literally the only thing not a sexual orientation in LGBT. unless you could the LGBTQ but idk what the fuck that Q is or what it entails tbh, once i hear those things and binary non binary talks my brain decides to turn on the flight mode

thoughts anyone ?

yeah honestly if it wasn't for the fact that the trans rights movement is so intertwined with the LGB rights movement i would say it would be better for us to be separate considering being trans is a medical condition that needs treatment rather than a sexual orientation.

[deleted]•

Yeah it should be it’s own thing. The reason it got mixed in with LGB ect was because a lot of the time people were fighting for the same rights, so it made sense.

Sexuality has nothing to do with being trans.

People like u/AirplaneAlice think it does... but they’re mentally unstable and get their information from pseudoscience

jejdjgege•

I have to stick up for April here- Every androphilic transwomen knows their sexuality plays a role in them being trans. Autogynephiles deny that because well- whilst androphilic transwomens sexuality is a direct results of their brains being feminized- autogynephiles sexuality has nothing to do with brain feminization.

It’s been found transwomen attracted to women have no brain dimorphism shifting to women- whilst androphilic trans women do. Even regular gay men have feminized brains- because a brain that is feminized will also have feminized sexuality. That is- attracted to men.

So called transbians have the exact same attraction men do they have the same interests men do the same mannerism etc. they aren’t feminized in the least? So what causes them to desire to be the opposite sex?? Maybe the huge incidence of a transvestic history may display a clue to that ....

2
[deleted]•

But being feminine doesn’t make you a woman. That’s an extremely sexist and closed minded view of gender norms, it’s also going against everything women have fought for over the last 50 years.

Having gender dysphoria and needing SRS/ needing your body to align up to your biological gender is what makes you transexual. Being feminine or being attracted to men are just personality traits. There can be straight feminine men ect. Ever heard of metrosexual?

4
jejdjgege•

The point is- the brain feminization is what causes being transexual. A biological woman is a woman by virtue of her biology. We are not the same. Metrosexual is simply a style. David Beckham is considered metrosexual but I don’t consider him feminine at all.

Emo men aren’t feminine. Goth men aren’t feminine. Metrosexual men aren’t feminine. It’s a style- all surface. Also 3 percent of straight men have autogynephilia at some level- which leads to an intense curiosity about femininity- they still aren’t feminine no matter how obsessed with or they are. If you take 100 gay men and 100 straight men which group do you think will have more feminine men? It’s well recognized most gender non conforming kids become gay- the actual numbers are 93-100 percent of gnc kids become gay.

For example empathy has been studied by sexual orientation. Hetero sexual men have the lowest empathy scores along with lesbians and hetero women and gay men have the highest. The violent crime rate of gay men is as low as hetero women, whilst the lesbian violent crime rate is almost as high as straight men’s.
Gay men are even noted to have mannerisms and speech patterns more similar to women than men which is not something learned.

I think you’re a little confused about Gender Identity, and Gender expression.

Gender Identity: One's innermost concept of self as male or female – how individuals perceive themselves and what they call themselves. One's gender identity can be the same or different from their sex assigned at birth.

Gender Expression: External appearance of one's gender identity, usually expressed through behavior, clothing, haircut or voice, and which may or may not conform to socially defined behaviors and characteristics typically associated with being either masculine or feminine.

Sexual orientation: An inherent or immutable enduring emotional, romantic or sexual attraction to other people.

Gender Dysphoria: Clinically significant distress caused when a person's assigned birth gender is not the same as the one with which they identify. According to the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), the term – which replaces Gender Identity Disorder – "is intended to better characterize the experiences of affected children, adolescents, and adults."

Although there are other avenues to gender dysohria than brain feminization- such as autogynephila- maybe there are others they haven’t discovered as well.

Having a sexual paraphilia as your reason for being a woman sounds far worse than brain feminization as well.

Again they haven’t found anything female typical in the brain of gynephilic trans women- other than bstc size- which is also true of pedophiles indicating that can be a sign of a paraphilia.

At the end of the day it’s all research. The dsmv even agrees 100 percent with me- and goes on to say if you have gender dysohria- from Whatever avenue may it be autogynephila or whatever that you should be allowed to transiton. The dsmv itself says MOST late onset and most gynephilic transwomen are transvestic/ autogynephilic

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blanchard%27s_transsexualism_typology

This is the model you’re going off of yeah?

Not only is it outdated, there’s a lot flaws with this argument.

  1. it’s not accounting for aesexual trans people... which exist. They can’t be “autogynephilic” as you suggest because they don’t have any sexual attraction.

  2. The entire idea of “homosexual transsexuals” is a conundrum. Trans/transexual woman = woman. So essentially a “homosexual transexual” would = gay woman, because once you transition you take on the wording for that gender.

Aka:

A straight trans woman = a woman attracted to men A gay trans woman = a woman attracted to women.

Maybe the wording needs to change... it just makes it seem a bit unscientific.

  1. your argument for Autogynephilia.

This is saying there are 3 types right?

Transvestic autogynephilia: arousal to the act or fantasy of wearing typically feminine clothing Behavioral autogynephilia: arousal to the act or fantasy of doing something regarded as feminine Physiologic autogynephilia: arousal to fantasies of body functions specific to people regarded as female

What if a trans woman isn’t feminine and doesn’t get aroused to any of this.

Are you also suggesting that lesbian biological women get turned on when they go to the bathroom?

2
[deleted]•

Oh, and if you’re going to claim something as 100% factual with all other theories as falsehoods....it needs to actually hold up 100% of the time... or it’s not a fact. It’s a theory.

Blanchard's transsexualism typology has not done this and many people have stated that it’s not factual because it doesn’t hold up to their experience.

There hasn’t been enough data studied on this, so currently nobody really KNOWS what the cause of transsexualism is, there’s certainly a lot of theories. But NO facts so far.

Just something to think about 😊

[deleted]•

And from a personal standpoint in your life....

Are you saying that you’ve honestly never seen a feminine straight man, or a masculine straight woman? Or a masculine gay man? Femme gay woman?

Because I could point out a few.

I mean for 1.. Ellen DeGenerous partner Portia De Rossi... she’s pretty feminine and gay AF. Are you suggesting she has a “masculine” brain?

If you have a sexuality of a man

What’s the sexuality of a man?

Their are millions of bisexual and gay men in the world. So your viewpoint is assuming that all men are straight and strictly attracted to women... which is just not true lmfao.

Same with women... there are millions of bisexual and gay women in the world. If you’re assuming that all women are strictly attracted to men you need to get out of the ditch you’re living in

You seriously need help.

Or did you transition because you were a gay man that thought it would be easier to be a woman?

If that’s the case then you’re not a transexual lmao

Lol I’ve been transitioning way longer then you. You only started in 2016 right?

And you’re 25

PrincessEcho•

How do you tell the sexuality of a man or a woman?

I can say I have a woman's asexuality.

Makes as much sense as you claiming to have a woman's heterosexuality.

LGB should be alone, T should be its own thing. If anything grouped with intersex and that's stretching it considering how many "trans" are non-op and even non-HRT nowadays.. Granted I miss the days we could use gender and sex interchangeably.

Q means Queer, also. I believe it used to be Questioning.

4
aRandomDigit0OP•

so is that someone who is questioning their sexual and/or gender orientation?

3
HeavenlyMelody91•

Questioning in the past I believe referred to questioning either their sexual orientation or sexual identity. However the Queer is..

"Queer is an umbrella term for sexual and gender minorities who are not heterosexual or cisgender."

4
jejdjgege•

Androphilic trans women have always been deeply involved in the gay community- ie Paris is burning

The transvestites can go find their own community though- nobodies complaining about that

1
fat_camp•

you are literally calling transwomen transvestite men though. that's the complaint

1
jejdjgege•

That’s because they are soooo.

Btw adolescent refers to post puberty....

2

i get you're a terf's account created literally 3 days ago so i don't get why you expect me to care about your opinions on anything especially since they ignore science you don't like

1
moldsink•

I think the only reason for the addition of T is for the support we gain from LGB, but you’re right that sexual orientation and gender is completely different—however I don’t see how separating the T would improve/change anything. I think they are so linked because many mtf/ftm identified as gay/lesbian pre-transition so many straight trans people still feel some connection to LGB even if they aren’t anymore

I agree that Transgender/gender identity is a distinct experience from sexual preference of lgbq. It’s pretty obvious that our needs are different and it is totally frustrating when I meet someone ill informed and think being trans Is just ‘super’ gay.

That said, I think we can fight misconceptions about being trans without separating ourselves from other gender and sexual minorities. We need to keep telling our stories and sharing with the world what it means to be trans so one day that is common knowledge for everyone.

So I think it is worthwhile to still fight for our rights together with all the allies we can get and keep the inclusive lgbtqi...

A lot of the conversations around separating lgb and T are too tinted by homophobia, transphobia and a need for an individual to be seen correctly for me to get behind.

1
aRandomDigit0OP•

i agree with you especially on it being tinted by homophobia. on the flip side its also hard to make a point on this without sounding homophobic. i mean, at the end of the day its a community of 4 and 1 group saying they dont want to be associated with the other 3 anymore, its hard NOT to take offense actually. if this does happen in future i hope they would understand or that we would be able to properly explain its for our own good rather than us being repulsed by them or whatever other reason

1
GabrielleOnce•

That isn’t how the world works. There isn’t going to be a council meeting of the queers and trans folk that gather around and vote for the dissolving of lgbt. Trans and lgb people will always be linked through support networks, community spaces, and fighting for their right at a fair life. Maybe they will change the lgbtqi to something like gender and sexual minorities, or something else that no one is using yet, since the current lingo is getting long. Because this connection will continue to be a strong link, it won’t be separated out.

However, there are lots of trans movements and groups that work specifically for trans rights or gay groups for gay rights. Those organizations will also continue to grow and if your clamoring for a separate t group then those might be a better avenue.

1
aRandomDigit0OP•

not really. if majority of trans people choose not to associate with LGBT it will happen, and that will most likely be the case. yes there would still be a link in the form of the past but even that would die out eventually. if it doesnt the link as allies would still be welcome ofc but we wont be seen as one of them anymore as time goes on. the world is evolving. compare trans rights today compared to 20 years ago. life is unpredictable, cant really say what will happen next year let alone some 40 odd years from now.

1
GabrielleOnce•

From the amount of gay, bi and lesbian trans people it doesn’t seems to be going their separate ways anytime soon. But I hope in 40 years everyone In lgbt has an equal place in all societies and there is no point for fighting for our rights. But we are not there yet.

1
Miss_Rayanne•

I don't consider myself part of the LGB or T community. I'm an individual with my own beliefs, interests and values.

1
aRandomDigit0OP•

we all have our own interests and values. just we are in the T community because our beliefs on this particular topic are aligned. you are cis or trans, theres no grey area about it, if you identify as something in the grey area you are venturing to NB realms and whatnot, and even then there will still be a term for what you are. when it comes to vast topics such as gender or orientation, you'll hardly find one where you are the only one in the world with

You’re right. And my thought in this is that we were once one of the most fringe groups in society and part of the reason we are even half way to being legitimate is the strength in numbers. But maybe it is time to part ways from identifying with a group of letters that stands for sexuality. Specially since political correctness is blurring the lines between the letters.

1

I feel connected to the LGB because I lived as a twink before transition.

That's it. Now I'm just a basic straight woman.
