The most frustrating part about the new economy is the input lag.

Discussion

I've finally put my finger on why I don't like the new mechanics. There's too much input lag!

What do I mean by that? It takes too much time between when you make a decision about the economy to when that decision is implemented. This isn't the biggest deal in the early game because once you read the tool tip you know that adding a district is going to give you 16 more stuff after 2 more pops grow. But when you get to the mid/late game. There's too many multipliers and other factors. Running low on energy? Is the problem a trade route, not enough commercial zones, technicians taking specialist roles...??

I mean it's not impossible to find out, but to navigate the UI is tedious. Not something that is easy, convenient, or FUN.

What could be a solution to the input lag problem?

Dont build something just because you have unemployed pops, wait for when you get the pop needed to work the new building you want, so that the previously built ones dont get deserters.

Or just micro manage it.

For trade routes, just make some corvette patrols.

I know what to do. The point I am trying to make is that it's not fun or convenient. The input lag causes unnecessary frustration.

Don't run your economy on a knife's edge. You need a buffer. Early game its easy to do by having only rural worlds and your capital. Centralize all production on your capital. Rural worlds are all farms/mines. Your capital is cities and production buildings. Job strata doesn't matter if there's only one strata. Your rural worlds only have worker jobs which are nonetheless critically important. Your capital only has specialist jobs which are also critically important. Clerk jobs on your capital are the overflow. They're the holding pattern for pops waiting for new specialist jobs.

By mid game I'm swimming in so many resources that I can set up a new forge world all at once. Colonize it, clear tile blockers and start building cities. When each step of the capital is done upgrading move more pops to the world. Immediately fill the planet with forge buildings. Upgrade all forge buildings. Keep moving pops, upgrading the capital, and upgrading all of the forge buildings. It involves a lot of clicking on yellow up arrows but it gets the job done.

my solution was not to patrol and just have an internal fleet tht i direct towards where the pirates pop up. bad solution, but it works for me (granted u gta be willing to wait up to 2 yrs ish for them to arrive lmao). for energy i just built a ringworld (well, restored the cybrex alpha one) just for it specifically.
