This is not a club for 30 year olds. Maybe there are clubs for 30 year olds, we don't know. Frankly, we don't want to know.
I always get soft for home-grown players as they age. Keep them until retirement because I get some strange satisfaction from having one-club men.
If I brought them in from elsewhere, however, I'll drive them to the bus station myself and kick them out of the car.
I got so obsessed with HG players in my FM2012 save my first team is now 100% HG players. All HG players in my reserves too, but there's a huge amount of them due to the fact that I want to be the top team in the EPL and be able to win the Champions League. Some players don't pan out, so I keep buying wonderkids every season and putting them in my U18 side. It's a bit out of control but my wage bill is low and I keep winning trophies.
So you're basically a Chelsea that works?
Sort of. Each season I have 20-30 reserve players on loan, and like 20-30 reserves on top of that. I have to sell players or those numbers keep growing. There's already been several cases of players demanding to be transferlisted so they can play some first team football that isn't a loan. I try to sell several players each season, but I want to make a profit on them, so selling younger players is usually not worthwhile until it's clear they will not develop into a good enough player at which point i try to recoup as much money as possible and move on.
Another problem is some of the wonderkids I sign think they are good enough to warrant first team inclusion. I have a player development pipeline I feed everything through, but sometimes I have to throw in a 17 year player into my first team or I will lose him. That throws things too, because there's reserve players waiting in their wings for their chance as well.
It's a big mess really, but everyone loves me because I win stuff and have a history of doing so. In real life it probably wouldn't be viable, only relying on signing 15-17 year olds (I don't sign 18 year olds even) probably wouldn't be approved by somebody at the club.. like the board maybe. It shouldn't really work, so most probably wouldn't want to risk it.
It’s a market we could do without.
