Help with picking a travel trailer.

Hello everyone, long time lurker and hopeful future full time RV liver. I am a travel nurse that is tired of spending 2k/month on hotels. I have been looking in to RV living for a few months and have decided to go for it. I drive a 2018 ram 1500 with payload of 1500 and total towing of 8040.

I am having trouble finding a floorplan that I love. I want to stay under/around 25ft. The main feature I am having trouble finding is a trailer that has both a couch and recliners. I do not want a dinette area and do not need a large kitchen.

The r-pod 189 is the best fit that I have found so far but would love a little more room. Does anyone have any suggestions on which models I should look at?

Man... I still don't know why RV makers are so enamored with dinettes.

I currently do what you want to do. I'm in construction... but same travel I mean. Four months to a year in a city and then I move on.

I'm by myself 90% of the time... love my comfy recliner and big TV. And like all good men I eat my meals sitting in my comfy recliner in front of the TV.

I've reworked or just thrown away the dinette in all three trailers I've owned so far.

I don't have much good advice for you... but if you can find something with a 'freestanding' dinette of just a table and chairs... it's easy to just move out or reconfigure to something smaller. And my usual advice to get something used/cheap to start off in. Doesn't need to be junk... but you have no experience of what's going to be important to you after living for months in a cracker box.

As an almost full timer that has a severe disdain for bulky dinettes who's in the market for a new (to me) rig... I'll be watching this one.

Good luck!

Awesome! That's definitely better than the r-pod. Thanks!

You're welcome. Note that Grand Design is arguably the best RV manufacturer when it comes to customer service. That's why I bought one and constantly advertise for them here. They're amazing and more people need to know!

Have you looked at both in person? I think the regular Imagine trailers are nicer but I focused my attention to the Reflection 5er's.

Has a Sofa and Chairs, but also a dinette. I think you should be able to tow it. The thing about Trailers, is you have to make compromises. There isnt one out there with 100% everything you want.

Wow those are quite pricey. I don't think that would fit in my budget.

FYI you should be looking to get at least 25% off msrp. 28% would be great.

I’m with you, dinnettes are practically useless and I don’t understand why so many rvs have them with no other options. A sofa with a floor mounted removable table is so much more flexible and functional.

Alternatively if you find a floor plan you like, you can have the dinette removed and order a sofa to put in its place.

Here's a thought. How about a toy hauler? Typical layout, you get bed up front, small kitchen and bathroom in the middle, and the 10 ft or so is open. They usually come with a folding couch. Throw that away. Put a recliner in, big TV, whatever you want.

You might want to talk with some dealers. They may be able to custom order what you want. At the very least they should be able to order a trailer with the dinette deleted so you can place your own recliner there.

Is that something dealers are usually willing to do?

Ask them. It's up to the manufacturer but I have read about others who have made similar changes. It really shouldn't be a big deal.
