Tim said as much during the December update, but as a very long run project.
It's a logical step, much like the Heatblur idea to eventually move to the F-14D. Most of the 3D, damage and flight modelling ports over directly, leaving the cockpit and systems to revamp. AdA supervision helps cut a lot of work in research and guesstimating.
It's not new ;)

"We will be going to another base to scan a -5"
"We have plan for a -5 and a D version"
but it will not start before the M2000C is redone:

Oups my bad, didn't saw that
Cool, that's what, 10th project on their list of planned developments?
Wow you guys love to complain.
Well, let's do the math. Mirage was released in 2015, Harrier 2017, MiG-19 in 2019. That's roughly 2 years per module, despite Razbam's initial plans that they will release two aircraft per year according to Prowler himself. Even if they ramp up the production to 1 year per module, it will still take them between 5 to 10 years to finish all currently announced projects.
It's just hard to get excited about anything they say any more. Last year Prowler claimed that by the end of 2018 we will have a finished Harrier, MiG-19, updated Mirage and maybe another airframe in beta.
Even saying they've done 1 module every 2 years is a bit generous given the Mirage is awaiting a major avionics overhaul which will hopefully fix many pretty large bugs that have been in the module for years. The Harrier is nowhere near close to completion and the MiG-19 just got delayed as well.
If anything I would expect progress to slow down as they reach aircraft like the F-15E given they have systems complexity matching or exceeding the Hornet, on top of that they need to maintain all the previous aircraft they've worked on. With the current list of aircraft they've said they'd like to do it sounds to me like a 20-30 year endeavour.
How many modules released without delay? Like 2?
The 2000-5! It's my biggest dream in dcs, i would take it over anything any day! (even over an f22) Top 2 would be the tornado but the 2000 5 is so perfect and would be extremely dangerous even in pvp servers.
Tornado would be sont good ! I'm also waiting for the 2000D
Let's make it a 2000N instead with a fully modelled nuclear bomb ;) Doing air to air in CCIP must be fun.
Difference between the C and D other than the second seat?
Like the F-15C and F-15E. Not just a second seat, it's a bomber.
pp now hard
Its easy to keep adding to the list when you never finish anything.
What differ the Mirage 2000C from the -5 model? in short terms? like Eli5 style
And here is how the cockpit looks: https://i.imgur.com/OfzSOdR.png
Aaannndd now I’m a m2000-5 main
just because of those MFD's i want it
MFDs lose like 5000 cool points compared to steam guages though
I disagree completely but can’t bare to see you get downvoted for this. Have an updoot, oh yes of unpopular opinion. May you rest in neutrality.
I'm a steam guage guy so I agree
OwO why is the cockpit lighting blue?

So familiar yet extremely odd

It's a more modern version of the -C, with better HUD, better HOTAS, better Dopler radar, modernized avionics and more importantly for us simmers, it finally gets Fox 3 capabilities, with the 530D being replaces by the [MICA](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MICA_(missile\)) missile.
What about A2G capabilities? Same as 2000C (dumb or semi-dumb weapons only) or is it improved as well? ( A2G radar, TGT option etc)
Fairly certain it can self lase with a tpod.
I think the 2000-5 can use the Damocles targeting pod, so I assume it has a higher A2G capabilities.
Nope, that’s the -5Mk2. The plain -5 (actually -5F) is A2A with same A2G limitations as known to the C.
According to the wiki it has an AA/AG radar too with synthetic appeture radar too!
Oh, I have no idea on that matter, sorry :(
-5 is a modern C, thus a fighter with limited A2G option, thus no Ground radar and no TGP
Two other things people haven't mentioned already: It can carry two extra A2A missiles, for a total of 6 instead of the 4 on the C. And I believe it also has Link-16 capability.
And from that picture, it seems that it can actually bring a huge fuel payload while retaining its AA capabilities !
Which is nice to loiter in the area for CAP.
Wait, is that a real pic or DCS? Can't tell, at all.
IS IT OR IS IT NOT? Jeez, why the fuck do people downvote questions ><
The -5 is the new version of the 2000, with new avionics, new radar, and Fox 3 capacities
Active radar homing missiles, thrustvectoring active radar homing/medium range IR missiles on all weapon stores
It's basically like a French version of a modern F-16, with MICA missiles, TGP, MFCDs, A2G radar, link 16, etc.
TGP and A2G radar is not the -5 (-5F) but the -5Mk2
Better radar, Fox 3's, Exocet missile, more air to ground stuff in general, and a more glassy cockpit comes to mind
-5 is still in operation and classified.
The french Airforce is looking (testing in progress) to use DCS in his training sequence.
But data protection is stronger in France than in us.
So all performances and systems will be simplified for public, only if Dassault accepts a public release of -5 on DCS My opinion : Razbam could have business with french Airforce for training (like ed for A-10C) but a -5 hardcore public module for DCS isn t for tomorrow..
I certainly understand why a lot of the community is very frustrated with RAZBAM on the lack of completion on their existing modules - 2 years after release and still having bugs or missing features is pretty aggravating.
I am however really excited that they will be doing more regular work for AdA - It may take some resources away from DCS consumer side initially, but landing a big customer like the AdA will mean a much more reliable paycheck and hopefully more resources for RAZBAM going forward (like more coders).
RAZBAM - if you are reading this, we are grumpy because we care and you are so close to getting it all right! Keep up the good work!
is the A-10C we have not "hardcore" enough for you?
This would be the exact same situation
Not really, -5 is an air fighter plane and his capacities must be protected
System capacities (radar, data link,........)Missiles performancesECM, IFF ident procédures, engine performances and many other datas are and all stay classified.French Air Force and Dassault aviation a more strict than some US aircraft manufacturer with security and spying ..
Give me only one aircraft in service (still in OPS) whose radar, missiles, IFF .. are modeled coherently in DCS ( not FC3 like)
Up until a week ago the USMC still flew F/A-18C
Yes and his radar and missiles aren't still adjusting to the reality on DCS..
Aim 120 is buggy and his radar is just a " first évaluation", not all modes are modelled.
No realisty IFF (it is just the more classified system on a plane)
The ECM system will be just an approximate modelisation of the real one.
It s look like hardcore and perfect but it ll just remain approximative compare to real F/A-18c Maybe US military accept this but French and Dassault won't ...
5 or 6 years ago, a French moder tries to create a Rafale on FSX (free). Dassault forbade him to continue under pain of criminal prosecution
5 years ago we participated to a 2 days workshop on serious gaming simulation at the request of the French Air Force. When we showed the docs of falcon 4, DCS A10C and the USAF docs available on the net, the director of the simulation of the ministry of defense was terrified that some civilians could have access to these kind of docs
Year 2000 : on my forums (www.checksix-fr.com) a visitor, student in aeronautics has published a thesis based on his own estimates of Rafale radar performances, just a school project. But brillant student.
My co webmaster (his was the owner of our domaine name) was awakened in the middle of the night, arrested and taken to the police station for interrogation. Because of this publication. Which was removed from the site.
So believe me when I say that the notion of secret and industrial property is not the same in france as the US, about french combat aircraft .
I am not sure that it would be "the exact same situation". Some companies and military forces are more cagey than others in this regard. What worked for ED and the ANG may not work the same for RAZBAM and the French Air Force.
It's comming from RAZBAM's discord : https://discordapp.com/invite/ZcCAVD
The earth will eventually succumb to the heat death of the universe, doesn't mean it's even close to being on the horizon or worth starting the hype train over.
Somehow it needs to fit into this massive list of "Confirmed" aircraft:
Finishing the Mirage 2000 avionics overhaul
Finishing the Harrier
MiG-19P/S
F-15E
MiG-23A
Super Tucano
AV-8B Plus
Sea Harrier FRS1
OV-10 Bronco (Though this sounds like a personal dev project)
A7 Corsair
Mirage III
Probably some others I'm forgetting
There is also a Pucura, Super Étendard, and they also asked what people prefered between O-2A Skymaster and Beechcraft Super King Air ( source : https://www.facebook.com/RazbamSims/posts/1799060423513921 )
But they are not all "officially confirmed", we just know they want to do them (team or personnally), doesn't mean they can or they will not change their plans
I remember them also talking about an A-6 at one point but it seems like Heatblur is nipping at their heels on that one.
Edit: They also just said on the Discord "Our goal is to eventually bring all the aircraft we developed for FSX to DCS.", this would mean:
BOEING AV-8B HARRIER II PLUS
BREGUET ALIZé
MCDONELL F-2 BANSHEE
BAE HARRIER GR.7/GR.9
BC METROLINER III
NORTH AMERICAN T-2 BUCKEYE
A4 SKYHAWK
SKYRAIDERS
CONVAIR F/A-201A KESTREL
LTV A-7 CORSAIR II
CONVAIR F-102 DELTA DAGGER
GRUMMAN A-6 INTRUDER
EA-6B PROWLER
They will have to make some choices, or hire ^^
Or they go with the VEAO technique, claim every aircraft for a 30 year roadmap to try and keep them for themselves.
That Prowler is gonna be almost redundant unless ECM is totally overhauled. I'd love it, though.
I came again
Heatblur also has intentions of developing the A-6
If you count the "unconfirmed" ones, they also showed F-105 models.
Don't forget they also polled people on which heavy lift helo they wanted, in the forums.
I just came.
