Question about Catcher

Genuine question I kind of tuned out towards the end of the last season.

We traded for Wilson Ramos, who from my understanding is a considered to be around top 5 catcher in the game.

Why wasn’t there much talk or effort into resigning him? He was an all star last year, but it just seemed like as soon as the season ended it was assumed he was walking.

Ramos is 3 years older than Realmuto, has had 2 major injuries and tons of minor ones, and isn’t as good as Realmuto. I’d rather have rolled with Alfaro than payed Ramos.

Imagine kidnapping Wilson Ramos... damn.

I think the idea was to have Alfaro be the main guy, but once Realmuto’s price went down, they went after him.

Ramos is also getting old and is injury prone

Did Realmutos' price actually go down though? We still paid a lot for him.

You should see what the reds were offering or at least what the Marlins wanted from the reds

Yea, they were shooting for the stars. I’d like to benefit from an unreasonable trade like Cesar and Franco for Corey Kluber but its not going to happen, just like the Reds trade was never going to happen.

Yeah they wanted Senzel or Trammell in addition to what the Reds originally offered , and they reportedly wanted Albies from the Braves

And Bellinger from the Dodgers

I remember during a Marlins Phillies game last season they were saying the Marlins would want five players back for him.

Probably because he is 31 and has had some injury issues the past few years. Realmuto is 27.

Ramos is a good player but has only played over 120 games twice in his career and hit over 20 hr once. At his age you have to wonder how much he has left in the tank.
