On Beast Units and the connection to Transformation

Serious Discussion

The five new units are unusual in that, in their own games, they didn't transform out of combat (the only other one like this being Yarne), unlike Laguz.

Add to this the fact that the transformation in FEH is tied to the weapon (beast units won't field transform if their weapon is unequipped, something I didn't know until today), meaning that the field transformation is not strictly necessary.

Combining these two points, these units could have been made such that they don't have a field transformation, making them distinct from Laguz whilst still being Beast units.

Additionally, as transformation is tied to a unit's weapon, there could be non-beast units in future which could field transform, such as the dragon Laguz like Dheginsea.

What do you think?

You encounter kitsune from Kaden's village in Fate Revelations route transformed. Unless you're referring to gameplay perhaps I am confused.

The battle with the Kitsune village is in Conquest, and you don't ever see them transformed outside of battle there. I don't recall fighting or seeing them other than Kaden in Revelations though.

If you try, for example, to attack with Naesala or Nailah (the ones I have) while not being transformed, they transform in combat. This was done for IS to reduce the number of combat sprites to only one set

In-combat tranformations aren't tied to the weapon - dragon/beast units still transform in combat when their weapons aren't equipped. The point is that field transformations are tied to the weapon.
