Hetzner Cloud would make a great seedbox

I decided to grab a Hetzner Cloud server (8,90eur per mo), with 8GB ram, 80GB SSD disk to test their network.

DC selected:

City: Falkenstein

Datacenter: fsn1-dc14

Country: Germany

Port speed I thought was 1Gbit/s at 20TB, but it turns out it's 2Gbit/s down, 1Gbit/s up. Sweet.

Iperf3:

(tested against Online.net FR iperf server)

It's not bad for 8,90eur per mo

It’s not gonna go great when you make 60 connections to different peers with that CPU. I know it’s expensive, but dedi is the only way to proper seed.

It depends on your usage. Most people 80gb is not enough for seeding. Good for usenet though. Personally I got a 16tb auction server.

Sweet, what did the 16TB cost you?

€33/month

Damn that's a pretty good deal.. What host did you buy it from?

Hetzner.

I use hetzer for a few other projects of mine, if i were to whip up a VPS would I just need to install something like quickbox to start a seedbox server?

Very new to this so pardon the noob question

Checkout dockstarter its like swizzin but installs everything in a docker container.

You can yes. Just be mindful of traffic limits (20TB) on most plans for their Cloud.

Create a backup, restore it to a new instance, 20TB more data.

Yes. It's a unmanaged server you have to install all software yourself. Swizzin is more lightweight and better than quickbox imo, and if you're using gdrive I recommend plexguide.

Doesn't byte sized have a docker based one too? Plexguide is also docker. I need to find a list somewhere of all the major installers.

I dont know, I obviously need that list aswell.

Haha PGBlitz now after their namechange, one of those other projects is a plexguide setup. I absolutely love it.

Not a huge fan of usenets and the torrenting capabilities arent there yet and i dont have the skill to setup docker container vpns that allow for seeding too..

Looking at getting a seedbox then having a rclone script to encrypt and load up to my gdrive. Just found ultraseedbox for 5 dollars a month, I might try it but i dont know if they give root access or not :/

Edit: They dont give root

I keep forgetting about the rename and I knew about if ahead of time. I have a 16TB hetzner auction with plexguide torrenting (private trackers) without issue. I also have a 10 gigabit usenet server running pg, and usenet is far superior if you're willing to pay a few bucks for it. Also I'm pretty sure one of the pg community containers is for deluge+VPN setup. Also pg supports encrypted drives now.

1
prod_engineer•

On your torrenting server, have you got that running through a VPN?

Yes, ive seen a few people talk about delugevpn, i tried a few different setups with the stock deluge and creating a openvpn container but i kept having write conflicts or something and the torrent would never start. Going to try delugeVPN now and see what it's like
