I spent last week looking at security of passwords and found users circumventing the requirements. These are some of the developers with DB access, let's begin with the core developers:

Superadmin (access to prod dbs) now changed passwords: dbadmin, dbms, admin, p4sswordfordb

Web Passwords (old now) : web ecomadmin store Hi123

And finally... We arrive. Old LDAP passwords: Fuckyou123 Fuckthisshit1235 ldap password32141 Smith215 windows10

How the fuck did these people circumvent the policy? Oh I'll tell you how! The old sysadmin gave His fucking credentials to everyone because he was "too busy" to reset passwords. (spoiler: was fired for not doing anytbing to help anyone)

Fuck sakes. Why

Hey all,

I'm in a situation where I want to sync up a few computers with files from Google Drive, without doing an entire rsync of the data. My current setup is just an NFS which pulls files and pushes as necessary, but these devices are off-site and don't want to expose the NFS. (I have about 13 TB stored on GDrive right now, synced to NFS)

Is there a reasonable tool I can leave on a remote (trusted enough) machine to download the 10 files nightly, or should I start to push them to a public server with authentication in front of them?

Cheers

I'm looking for server recommendations, I have a $500 CAD budget (flexible). Prefer 1 or 2u, noise isn't an issue. This box will be living in DC.

Preferred Spec:

  • E5 CPU
  • Able to put 128G ram or greater
  • 1G network port
  • IPMI/ILO
  • Support up to 15TB or greater of storage in raid

Any ideas what sort of box would be best?

Hey all,

My host has existed for about 8 months, and I'm here to offer some seedboxers unmetered servers, with dedicated pipes (you can burst 24x7!). These servers are located in Europe (AMS, Germany).

CPU: Intel Core i7-7700k with Hyper-Threading

RAM: 32 GB DDR4 Memory (Free upgrade to 48 GB DDR4 for the next 72 hours.)

STORAGE: 2 x 4TB HDD in RAID

NETWORK: 1Gbit Unmetered

PRICE: $75 USD per month / 66 EUR per month

Order Here

We have other Gbit (up to 20Gbit) servers available in 3 countries (Canada, Amsterdam, Germany). You can burst these servers 24x7, the ports are dedicated to you and not shared by anyone else. We'll al

Hey all,

I've got a few personal hypervisors in Canada (East), EU (Germany, Switzerland). I was wondering if anyone would be interested in splitting them with me? Each host has 64GB DDR4 memory, /24 subnet, and 20TB of storage. I only have a need personally for /28 subnet on each host, 20GB of memory, and 5TB of storage. So I thought I'd ask here if anyone wants to split up the server into a shared hypervisor?

Right now, they're bare metal with libvirt + lxc installed, I could install proxmox or similar, and make user accts with restricted perms to only manage their own VMs (or another hypervisor/panel). Each server has 2Gbit unmetered bandwidth, and connected t

I decided to grab a Hetzner Cloud server (8,90eur per mo), with 8GB ram, 80GB SSD disk to test their network.

DC selected:

City: Falkenstein

Datacenter: fsn1-dc14

Country: Germany

Port speed I thought was 1Gbit/s at 20TB, but it turns out it's 2Gbit/s down, 1Gbit/s up. Sweet.

Hey all,

I'm needing some advice for what parts to buy for a whitebox tower server, that will be in the living room so quiet is essential.

I'd prefer DDR3 memory, I've got 32G I'm intending on loading into it, needs to have at least 4 drive slots. Indifferent on case.

Im leaning towards supermicro boards but I'm unsure which one, any tips?

Obligatory I'm in Canada so currency exchange and import fees matter

Cheers

I'm looking for a R210ii, I've got ram to put in it, and drives. I'm located in Ottawa, ON (Canada), can cover shipping via Purolator directly, prefer to have prices in CAD.

Let me know!

I live in an apartment complex, my neighbor smokes all day and plays loud music all day. I've reported him numerous times to the city bylaw, security and property management. The man refuses to answer his door, and when he does he usually yells and screams and threatens to kill anyone who knocks on his door.

Today my property manager went to him and told him to turn his music down or off, he promptly told her to go to hell, and said he's going to kill my wife and I for reporting him. This is not the first threat he's waged against my family and I (1yo son, puppy, wife and i). Property managers argues with him for about 10 minutes and he shuts door in her face, she refuses to int

I recently got the motherboard, bought some RAM, a fan and PSU - now I’m looking for a case, a tower is necessary due to space and noise issues (no basement/garage), it doesn’t have to be fancy case - just one that’ll work. It’s strictly being used for low power VMs (web server, NAS, dns server, VPN, and a few misc game servers).

I’ll have ~60GB of ram inserted, dual 5670s, 450w PSU, two nic cards, and 2 drives to start, thoughts?

Edit: forgot to mention I live in Canada
