Savathun's Song can be indefinitely stalled

Misc

I joined this strike game where this guy was just holding onto the orb the entire time preventing us from continuing the strike and finish it. He wasn't afk either. He would be at his character and prevent us from moving him off the map to reset the orb. He was literally just sitting there watching us not complete the strike for whatever reason.

I know this doesn't happen very often, but there needs to be some kind of timer on the orb so if you hold it for too long, the orb respawns and someone else can pick it up.

Oh boy, i have awesome memories from d1 raids, i was a raid leader for 6 years in wow, so i was the only one on my fireteam that had the raid experience, all the other guys had fps experience but nothing like a raid, so i always did the fights first with other teams ti lean the mechanics and later go with them to teach them, but the first tries we did it without me explain anything, they wanted to try to figure things out and i would only say if they where on the right track or not

The first time we summoned orix, god damn, the way those motherfuckers reacted, that was amazing, better yet as when we killed him

We didn't continue in d2, how the game launched killed our will to continue, but that epic moment is something we still talk about when we play other games

Not sure what would be worse, The Corrupted or Savathun's Song with this change.

Tell me, why don’t people throw the relics at each other?

QuantumVexation/r/DestinyFashion Mod•

Can’t answer why but it’s proof to matchmaking in raids never being a good idea

So much this.

26
Zennigard:AD: Team Bread (dmg04)•

It works in every other game but sure, Destiny must be the only exception.

Skill-based matchmaking in raids based off of completions. I’d be down.

-4†
karhall•

I dunno because the funniest part of Corrupted is throwing the orb at someone else and watching them start looking around frantically and confused when their game suddenly turns third person.

88
croidhubh•

I had someone in Corrupted do this to me once. Luckily I'm pretty perceptive and have a decent reaction speed, so as soon as it went third person, for whatever reason, I instantly spun around and threw it.

We melted her and the guardian ran up to me with the High Five and Chest Bump emote when the chest arrived. It was pretty funny.

1
SirisAusar•

Because there are only 2 different instances where a single-charge orb doesn’t do the trick, even on heroic. The bigger boss in the elevator and one of the techeun’s later phases.

16
kristallnachte•

Also you can just do those twice, making a charged orb still not.matter

11
SPARTAN-IISpartans Never Die•

But for an action that gives a big damage boost, and takes literally 2 seconds, why WOULDN'T you do it?

8
[deleted]•

Wait, you're supposed to keep throwing em at each other?

15
The-Arnman:D: Drifter's Crew•

If you throw the relics at each other they become more powerful and gives a bigger blast and more damage. It doesn’t matter if you throw the relic to each other 10 times, as long as it has been in the hands of 2 guardians it will give a big boom. Just remember to throw it when the other guardian is facing you.

38
Hatherence•

The only time it tells you that this charges relics is in a one time only tutorial text box that appears at the bottom of the screen the first time you do The Corrupted. Most people probably just forget.

3
Iceykitsune2:V: Vanguard's Loyal•

Why would you want to?

1
gojensenPS4•

because even uncharged it does SOMETHING so that means most of them never discover the boost you get from charging... IMO an uncharged orb should pop up "immune" or something - but I guess that would hurt solo plays?

1
iDoentNo:AD: Team Bread (dmg04)•

You don't have to in normal mode for Sedia. You only have to for the two bosses on the elevator but most people just throw at boss because there's already two orbs on elevator.

1
MajorKlumzy:V: Vanguard's Loyal•

Because no one's told them yet? I didn't know that you should throw it to another person til I read it here on reddit. I've been educating people ever since.

1
BillehBear\[T]/•

Frustrating to ever try power up the orb in The Corrupted with randoms lmao

It's like they actively avoid it when I try to throw it to them or when I'm trying get them to throw it to me, never happens

1
Xop•

My guess is because they don't understand the mechanic. The same question could be asked about the taken blight event where people still destroy the mini blights.

1
Tjommii•

I always destroy the blights at first and second location, easier to get heroic at the third spot. However, it is a time race when blueberries are added to the equation as they see me destroy them the first two times. In my opinion it is a bit fun to race them though.

2
[deleted]•

Because they panic and threw it out in the abyss :D

1
MeateaW•

Whenever I try I wait till someone looks at me - throw it at him, and then he turns away and runs in another direction and the ball explodes on his back.

Or I sit there staring at them waiting for them to look at me - I get real close and just look at them, no one ever seems to actually want the ball thrown to them.

1
Teamrocketgang•

I loaded into the Sedia strike last week and both blueberries understood the throwing mechanic! I almost dropped my controller in surprise. The rest of that strike went very smoothly

0
The-Arnman:D: Drifter's Crew•

Wait that’s illegal, blueberries don’t understand the mechanics.

Also happy pie day!

0
externalhost:D: Drifter's Crew•

Because no one actually wants to catch it, so it's infinitely faster to throw it right away at the enemies.

-1
Ktan_Dantaktee:D: Drifter's Crew•

The Corrupted has a different type of orb with different mechanics.

2
atimidchicken•

I'm not talking about orb mechanics, i'm talking about sperg randoms that don't have a brain being presented with an orb.

So here's the thing. This might have happened once a year if ever. But now? Now the words out. You drew attention to it, and so trolls who see this have a new game to play on Destiny. This is bound to he a more common occurance, thanks to you.

Its called the Streisand effect.

102
Harris42007:D: Drifter's Crew // Trust.•

Yeah I've played since launch and I've never had this happen to me personally. I would just leave myself if someone was stopping me from progressing and getting on with my day, I'm not just saying, but I'm just saying. Stay frosty.

32
wwjoshdew:V: Vanguard's Loyal•

In D1 they had incentive for staying. Your buff grew stronger as you stayed in the playlist without going to orbit. Glad that's not a thing, because then you'd be willing to try and outlast the guy being a dick.

12
Harris42007:D: Drifter's Crew // Trust.•

Yeah I remember the streaks from d1, I was surprised when that wasn't a thing in d2.

4
BillehBear\[T]/•

EnigmaticKestrel•

I encountered this exact situation. I messaged the guy, trying to assume the best, that maybe he was someones kid brother playing on big bros account, and explained what to do with the ball.

Nope. He was a major douche nugget.

75
floatingatoll•

In addition to the in-game Griefing report function, I know that on PlayStation Network you can report players for unsportsmanlike behavior. This qualifies.

45
EnigmaticKestrel•

Yup, I did both.

16
floatingatoll•

Thank you for taking the time.

8
s-twin•

2
stormhunter2•

Just curious, what kind of response did he give you?

4
EnigmaticKestrel•

Basically a "Lol you mad, bro?" sort of response, I can't remember what it was exactly.

10
floatingatoll•

For those who suffer this trolling, you can Report Player using the in-game inspect player function, and one of the options is Griefing. Please use that when this occurs.

48
Tjommii•

Me and a buddy had this happen once at the arms dealer strike, when the fuel tank leaves a charge. He did it because he wanted to solo the strike and typed that he'd already forced out two sets of other players. Me and my friend reported him and decided to contest his troll, so we put on YouTube and waited. He ended up giving in and let us end the strike. Was kind of satisfying to put this troll to his place.

17
floatingatoll•

Tell everyone: if you aren't hunting Crota, you're just killing time until he gets here.

Eris Morn was right. If you aren’t making progress, you’re allowing the enemy to win. The only way to win is to disengage, go to orbit, and start over. Anything else grants the troll the attention they’re grieving you to receive. While it speaks highly of the human tendency to punish others that you idled there for an hour, you gave them an hour of gleeful dopamine rush, and have likely encouraged them to troll again in the future.

11
BlackPlague1235:D: Drifter's Crew•

So you were gonna put his name out for Witch Hunt via YouTube then... just as bad imo because there are people who will cruelly harass non stop which also isn't right.

Edit: Nevermind. I misunderstood. My bad.

-1
TheVoidSpirit:D: Drifter's Crew•

I think he meant that he and his friend just watched a few videos to kill time.

6
BlackPlague1235:D: Drifter's Crew•

Oh. It's just the way it was worded that led me to believe that.

2
Tjommii•

Think you misunderstood, never uploaded anything to YouTube. We put on YouTube to watch videos while waiting for him to give up, would never out anyone like that. As you said that would be an equally bad thing to do.

Might have been badly formulated by me.

2
dethisuponyou•

That's only if the report system works for you. Ive been getting network errors every time I try to report someone since launch. It doesn't matter where I play either ( I have a gaming laptop for when I leave home).

6
floatingatoll•

If you’re getting in-game errors when reporting a player, please film a recording of it and post in the Bungie Help forums that you have a video of that issue and who should you PM the url to. It’ll probably be BNG_Help02 or something. That shouldn’t be happening, or really even possible, but bugs will abide.

4
dethisuponyou•

I tried posting there once and didn't get a reply but I guess I'll try again sometime. Its pretty annoying that I have to post to a forum and just hope someone decides to answer my post. I just gave up on reporting. Now when a troll ruins my day I just return to orbit and try again...

1
Firelv2OP•

Oh don't worry, I made sure to do this when I figured out what he was doing.

1
pcweber111Voop Nation•

That's different. They had the light ripped out of them. With cayde and us during the campaign we literally had no light. Our next death was permadeath but for different reasons than during that strike.

THE_GECKOSLAYER•

This happened to me a year ago. Two douchebags grabbed the orb and went to the far left of the area, off map in some crevice. I stayed there for an hour. This is after running the strike without their help. I reported them multiple times during the delay, but that’s the worst Destiny experience I have ever had.

9
Ssyynnxx•

why would you let 2 people hold you hostage for an hour over a videogame?

43
THE_GECKOSLAYER•

How long into a strike would you let someone hold you hostage? It’s not like I signed up for it knowing.

-12
saucemancometh•

Less than five minutes. There is zero penalty for leaving...

29
Deathblow92•

I've left strikes where I notice the other guys just chilling at the start after a couple minutes. The second I saw then fucking with the orb I would have been gone.

Strikes are a ~10 minute activity, no way in hell am I staying in one for more than 20 minutes

18
THE_GECKOSLAYER•

This was a year ago and the player base was way down. Supers were trash and didn’t recharge. Special weapons were in the heavy slot and heavy didn’t drop very often. Matchmade strikes were 30 minutes easy.

-16
Ssyynnxx•

literally just fucking leave what the hell its a videogame

4
bguzewicz:D: Drifter's Crew•

I’ve left strikes on Mercury when I’ve seen other guardians intentionally jumping off the map in the infinite forest. I’m not interested in playing with people who don’t actually want to play the game. Those guys were shitty, but why let them make your day worse.

3
Karmastocracy:AC: Team Cat (Cozmo23)•

Maybe two or three minutes tops.

1
Don11390•

I'd just leave the strike at that point, since there are no matchmaking penalties for strikes if you leave. But the orb should really have a timer on it, to give players a sense of urgency.

9
stormhunter2•

Had someone do this when I was doing the fallen tank PE on the rig. At first I thought they were a noob, nope, they knew exactly what they were doing. They nuked the tank instead of making it heroic, then took and orb and literally ran away.

My advice to you op, first report the guy, tell your other teammate to report him too. Then either have a dance contest or leave.
