Microdisectomy: two weeks post op

Two weeks! Two freaking weeks already!

The second week was good. The main thing is that you can see my husband getting stronger. He no longer needs help sitting on the toilet, getting up and down from bed or sitting down. He is much stronger and the pain is getting much better.

Super good news:

He cooked two meals last week! Sounds tiny, but before the surgery the pain was so bad that his life was work > bed and vice versa. He had no energy or stamina for anything else so I have been cooking for 5 months now. Last week he had the energy to cook us two meals and he was so fucking happy! It was such a nice thing to watch and gives us hope that he will keep getting better.

Two week doctors check up:

After two weeks you will have a check up with your doctor. Mostly to see the incision. Our check up went great and the incision is healing nicely. They took out this bandage-thing that was helping keep the stitches in place (not a doctor as you can tell).

Only thing that doctor mentioned was that he has to walk way more than he is right now. I have been trying to tell my husband, but he was just too afraid. Mainly of long steps because he felt the incision was going to open haha it took the doctor telling him to stop worrying to finally do it.

He has to walk a minimum of 1 mile per day right now. The plan is to do 1 mile for 2 days and he will try to go up from there. The doctor told him that the more he walked the better he will feel long term.

Constipation:

This is now under total control. With the decrease in pain pills and taking 3 colace a day, he has been able to go daily at this point.

Sciatic Pain:

Still completely gone. The only thing left is some muscle spasm and some tingling if he sits for too long. We were told that both should keep going away as time comes. Nerves take the longest to heal so this is to be expected. But the sciatic pain has been completely gone from the beginning.

No bending/lifting/twisting:

Going strong and he has been great about it. We have 4 grabbers around the house so he doesn't feel he has to carry them around with him. A bit overkill, but they are fairly cheap and I rather him not have an excuse to bend over. I also think it helps to seem them all around the house as a reminder to not bend. The more he heals the more he knows that he might forget in a month or two.

He has been sleeping on his back for 95% of the time since he found it super comfortable. Sadly, that has run out and now he wants to sleep on his side sometimes. We took people's advice and he has pillows on his back to prevent him from accidentally twisting while he sleeps.

If you have any questions feel free to comment or message me. Messages go to my email, so even if you find this post 2 years later message me and I will reply. I did that with a couple of people here before the surgery so I will make sure I pay it forward :)
