Necromancer Tank question

Question

So with the Necromancer abilities revealed, the Bone Tyrant so far is looking really great in my opinion. I noticed that the Necromancer maybe might be a valid option for having more points put into health? so i would like some input

Ravenous Goliath version of your ultimate that drains X% of your max health per second.

Death Scythe ability heals %maxhp back to you. The swift scythe version also grants a heal over time %maxhp

With the Beckoning Armor ability, you can pull ranged attackers nearby to combine with your Ravenous Goliath.

So what i am wondering is, do you think it will be worth to put a lot of points into HP?

As cool as the transformation is, I honestly don’t think it will see much use in endgame pve. In pvp certainly, it will be a beast. Putting in a lot of points into health could be useful, as you will basically be unkillable (I assume). In pve I think both of the other ultimates will see more use as they provide a lot more support.

Hmm perhaps, but with the draining of health based on your health it could perhaps be strong depending on how the full release ends up.

Yeah, I mean you could use it to tank pve, but it’s already pretty easy to survive outside of maybe some dlc hard modes. It would just be overkill. Why sit there as a undying hunk of bone when you could increase your group dps by 30% or prevent a wipe?

With 100k max health, what I guess is probably the upper limit of possible, you'll do 5k DPS with this ult. That's really not that much compared to how much more damage your team would do if you use the flesh colossus instead, and apply 9 seconds of Major vulnerability.

what's bone colossus like 300 ult? it's too expensive for very little payoff and you're probably better off just blowing warhorn at that point.

It's expensive in contrast to other ults, but when you factor in sets like Akaviri, then couple that with the Necro self-heal ability morph that provides 5 ulti for each corpse consumed for the heal, and then the passive that provides 10 ultimate with the same activation (corpse consuming) on a 16 second CD - you're looking at the possibility of consistent usability. Your point is still valid and uptime would be even more significant on lower cost ults, but Necro ulti-gen will likely make a 300 cost ult not feel very expensive.

The passive you reference exists on every class except Sorcerer who have a large cost reduction instead. Templars get it from Dawns Wrath. Wardens get it from Animal Companions. They just change the numbers so it looks different. Calculates the same.

It doesn't calculate the same. 10 ulti every 16 seconds is higher than 4 every 8 seconds (warden) and 3 every 6 seconds (templar) - unless the numbers on the skill page I'm looking at are wrong. That said, they're all close but the biggest point I was making referred to the heal ability morph that provides 5 ulti for each consumed corpse. The passive is just icing on the cake, especially considering it procs on usage of that heal due to corpse consumption being the trigger. So even at one corpse that's 15 ulti every 16 seconds, not counting ulti gen/cost reduction sets and even nord racial. It'll have the best ulti-generating potential in the game, but it'll also rely on having corpses available for consumption.

Which is probably why so many Necro abilities generate corpses.

Bone armor on resolve or refresh for example. Many of the utility powers generate a corpse on use. The one exception is maybe Scythe but that's more like a tanking tool.

Personally I think Bone Tyrant will be interesting because it encourages you to not pour completely into a single stat. Especially since you have to mix it's health scaling abilities woth other skills.

In this rare instance it might actually pay off to put stats in health as well as stam/mag to give yourself enough resource to frequently use it while still receiving decent scaling.
