Jay’s Motive for Killing Hae: He stated he would kill anyone who came between he and Stephanie. He was cheating on her and had told this to Adnan who told Hae. Hae was furious and would confront Jay. Maybe Hae called Adnan’s phone when Jay had it and she told Jay she was going to tell Stephanie?

Hae and Stephanie didn't even like each other. Just one obvious problem with your theory.

Adnan said she was angry when she heard about it and he had to get her back off. He told her they would likely break up anyway when Stephanie went off to College.

You need to corroborate your source.

What, you dont think Adnan is a trusty source of information? 😂

Which do you find more trustworthy- Adnan or Jay? 🤣

-5

I believe Adnan told this to Gutierrez in one of her interviews at the detention center. He was asked to speculate why anyone might do this.

My point is, this case is filled with he said, she said. Especially from teenagers. The only evidence of value is evidence that can be corroborated. Unless you can point to an independent verification for something Adnan said, it has no merit.

It’s quite plausible. Remember - she got a page in the afternoon that upset her. Nobody seems to know who paged her since they never found her pager. Could have been from Jay.

Given the phone logs, call pings, & etc.. Don't think that could be workable.

Hard to believe no one ever discussed this possibility? It either had to be Adnan or Jay and Jay had a motive as well and this would explain how he knew so much about the murder - because he did it!

What motive Stephanie? You got to be kidding me.

Illmatic826•

Can provide documentation showing when hae called Adnans cell phone.

you are the first person to ever suggest such a thing so back it up

4
troy919OP•

Could that be the incoming call on Adnan’s phone at 12:43?

0
krxs10•

but then wouldn’t it show up as her?? and why wouldn’t Adnan state he spoke to her earlier about that it would def help him

also someone mentioned it being possible she went to the gas station and Jay could’ve intercepted her there.

0
troy919OP•

Adnan would not have answered the 12:43 call, Jay would have since he had the phone. That call may have been precipitated by a page she received at lunchtime which seemed to bother her.

0
krxs10•

oh i see

but what I’m saying is wouldn’t her number have come up on the phone records since it was to adnans phone.

and why wouldn’t Adnan have told police that he told he that morning about the cheating.

also didn’t she hate stephanie ?

1
bg1256•

He stated he would kill anyone who came between he and Stephanie.

Where did Jay state this, and to whom?

He was cheating on her and had told this to Adnan who told Hae.

How do you know any of these 3 things?

Hae was furious and would confront Jay.

How do you know either of these things? And why would Hae be furious about Jay cheating (if he were)?

Maybe Hae called Adnan’s phone when Jay had it and she told Jay she was going to tell Stephanie?

From what phone did Hae place this call? Which call on the call log matches this scenario?

SK_is_terrible•

You missed this one:

Remember - she got a page in the afternoon that upset her. Nobody seems to know who paged her since they never found her pager. Could have been from Jay.

3
troy919OP•

She could have called from school at 12:43, perhaps in response to the upsetting page she received.

1
bg1256•

What upsetting page did she receive?

2
troy919OP•

Something that made her change her plans right after school so that she could not give Adnan a ride. Where are the pager records? That will tell you who the killer is.

0
bg1256•

Do you see that you're arguing in a circle here? You don't have her pager records, so you can't claim that she received a page with any confidence.

We have one witness who says Hae had something else to do and couldn't give Adnan a ride.

But we have no good reason to think that it's more likely that Hae got a page than we do to conclude that Hae was just trying to blow Adnan off with the most common excuse in the universe (something came up, gotta go!).

3
troy919OP•

In terms of impulse control, Jay seems much more likely to fly off the handle in a fit of rage than Adnan as indicated by Jay’s many run-ins with the law including physical abuse. Adnan had never shown any indication before or after the murder.

3
Fratboy37•

Um, Adnan’s been in jail. That’s not a good faith comparison.

12
troy919OP•

But Jay should be in jail for his involvement in the murder - even for what he “admitted to” - although everyone knows he was more involved than he’s admitting. I’m open to the idea that he did it now that I see a legitimate motive

1
KhaleesiBubblegum•

We wont know what motive Jay could have had, or anyone else for that matter her friends, family, or anyone because nobody bothered to thoroughly interview and map out all of these connections/relationships before hand. And of course now people arent going to fess up when someone else is doing the time.

just seems something else going on other than adnan being a "lover scorned" . her friends noticed happy-go lucky hae upset during lunch, and rush off to do something after school. that something wasn't giving adnan a ride as we know from other witnesses she told him she couldnt because she had something else do to, and then walk to her car alone.

adnan and hae had both moved on to some degree, she had don, he had nisha.

It only makes sense to say the police didn't investigate other suspects enough if you assume Adnan is innocent, and that they fed Jenand Jay their stories, plus the location of the car. And that is a big fucking assumption.

Look at this from the police's perspective: why would they keep investigating the new boyfriend with a solid alibi and the unrelated weirdo who found the body if they have incriminating cell records and two witnesses with information not available to the public saying that Adnan did it?

If you care about the truth, do some introspection about your base assumptions. Does Adnan just seem like too nice of a guy to have done it? Does Jay seem kinda thuggish and shady? Is Jen somehow off-putting? Do you agree with Rabia's politics and enjoy her twitter content?

Rabia tried to make the case that Jay (or Jay and Jen) did it for awhile, but even she realized that it was impossible for Jay to be involved and for Adnan to be totally innocent. The two were by all accounts together until pretty late in the day; it would require Adnan to be incredibly stupid to not notice Jay running off to murder his ex and bury her body during their time together, plus it would mean that Jay and Jen got really lucky when putting the time of the burial around 7:00, since that was when Adnan's phone pinged Leakin Park. That's why Rabia pivoted towards "Jay knew nothing; it was a police conspiracy."

Go take a look at the timelines on r/serialpodcastorigins. Disregard any speculation; it's biased against Adnan. The facts, though, are thouroghly cited using documentation from the MPIA files. If you care about what happened to Hae, you owe it to yourself and to her to make sure you're fully informed.

7
KhaleesiBubblegum•

the only reason the burial time is placed around 7 is because police get jay to adapt his story to fit the call logs and inaccurate maps they had at the time. jays original statements did not line up. We dont even know forsure if hae was killed when they say she is killed. when you take a look at everyones varying statements they do not make any sense. Im not 100% sure of adnans guilt or innocence . just seems how they say it happened is implausible. im not even assuming Hae was killed at the propsed time they say she was.

5
troy919OP•

Where was Jay between 2:30 and 3:15?

0
bg1256•

Meeting up with Adnan.

3
mysquiddiedtoday•

I guess he was probably chasing down Hae so she wouldn't tell Stephanie about him cheating.

And then I guess he got super lucky when he blamed Adnan, and Adnan had no alibi, and Adnan's phone pinged the worst possible cell tower of its own accord.

So ok, it's technically possible that Jay killed Hae on his own and spent the whole day with her ex, and then was able to pin the whole thing on him without the police noticing anything. But if you think that's more likely than the guy with the motive whom several people said tried to get into her car under false pretenses, and whose phone just happened to indicate that he was in the area where his ex's body was found the day day she went missing--that's a bit of a double-standard.

2
KhaleesiBubblegum•

we dont even know if hae was actually killed at that time. the state has no evidence besides jay whom they mold his story to fit call logs that they thought were accurate but werent. Also i doubt the motive the state gives. both hae and adnan were moving on. she had don, he was talking to nisha. the "i sacirficed my relgiious values for you and you dumped me " motive is so ridiculous to me for a guy who was running around having sex, stealing from the mosque, smoking weed, juggling other girls, etc etc. just doesnt add up

upset because her murderer that she had already tried ti get away from asked for a ride

this is a ridiculous conjecture lol

And yet, it was testified to or related to the police by witnesses, and here he is. In jail yet.

PAE8791•

Let's roll with Jay doing it. Where was AS that day? We can eliminate the Nisha call and Steph call. Where was AS ? He was late for track. It's difficult to commit to Jay without AS. In order to take that leap of faith, we need AS schedule that day. It's convenient and a smart move for AS to never commit to an alibi. That's his best move.

The track coach Sye testified on March 3, 1999 that track practice started at 3:30. Before that he was at the library as witnessed by Asia.
