Build Help - Have been a laptop user for past 10 years, want to upgrade to a PC this time

Help

Hey guys, absolute newbie here as you can tell from the title, I'm quite used to my laptop but lately I've started to feel the limits of it. I have never built a PC before but I do want to learn and try to build one by myself.

Presently, I'm using a 4-year old Lenovo G50-80. I pretty much use it as a CPU since I have a separate monitor, keyboard, mouse and a set of speakers. I have a different laptop for when I'm traveling, so portability is nothing to worry about.

Max budget - 60k

Location - Gujarat/Would prefer to buy online

Purpose - I'm a freelance writer, so I don't really need an extremely powerful build for my trade, but I do want to play games like Skyrim (modded), GTA V, Subnautica, No Man's Sky and other RPG-esque games at high settings with 40+ FPS.

Power outage is a big issue in my area, that's one of the reason why I've held back from having a PC, but I suppose I'll invest in a decent UPS. Heat is another problem, it's already hitting 43 degrees, so I would like to have a machine that can handle that coolly.

I'm planning to upgrade my system in June. Any advice or recommendation is appreciated, thank you in advance!

If you are upgrading your system in June, you would be interested in the Ryzen 3000 series CPUs and Navi Graphics cards. They are worth waiting for.

I read somewhere about the anticipated Ryzen 3000 series, if it is released in next two months, then I'll check the reviews and look into it.

No point if his budget is at 60k. That hardware is going to be crazy expensive. I’d finalise a build now and wait to buy after prices decrease instead of waiting and then spending time making a build.

If the release price is close to the speculated price, I could try to go for the mid-range processor. But I'll still wait for how the general response is and then decide. I don't really mind waiting a little longer regardless of how the upcoming gen turns out to be.

Given the budget, I would say look into one of the Ryzen CPUs, 8 GB RAM, and a 570 or 580, especially if you can get one second hand.

Haven't had any experience with Ryzen, but I'll check it out, thank you!

I play CPU intensive games at 75hz and a R5 1600 has been sufficient. I've tried it on 144 and it hiccups a bit maintaining that on the same games (most of the time its a GPU limitation though), but for 60-75 it should be enough. With your budget, the GPU will almost definitely be the bottleneck.

I'm not a heavy gamer, so I'm not really looking into detailed gameplay. Nonetheless, this sounds good, wouldn't mind trying something that I haven't. Thanks for the heads up!

Do you have media for storage?

I do have an HDD that I use for backup and storage. Why does it matter?

I have readied a build for 63-64k without storage.

You could opt for the Phanteks P300 for 5.3k. It is a nice looking case with good cable management support. As a new builder, you should buy a good case. I remember my first build with an Antec GX200. Never cut my fingers so much as that day. Now I have a Meshify C. It is an excellent case with equally good cable management.

Since there is not much airflow, you should add 2 Noctua 140mm fans to the front. They push an incredible amount of air and can help in maintaining positive pressure, reducing dust and temperatures.

I also found a GTX 1660 TI by Galax for a bit below 24k at The IT Depot.

That case looks pretty sweet, I'll see how I can go about my stuff without a fixated storage. Thank you!

With the Ryzen 3000 and Navi launching, as per the rumours, you can have a good PC for 64k or so (storage inclusive).

Also, the new motherboards will have PCIe 4.0 which is also a huge bonus(as per rumours).

Thanks for the list! I'll take a look at those components.
