Looks like some kind of hornworm (maybe genus Manduca?). Pic for comparison. If so, it'll turn into a sphinx moth.

Thank you! something came along and ate it after it made its chrysalis, so sadly, it will never be a sphinx moth.

That_Biology_guy is correct! This is a Manduca sexta larva! It'll become a big, fast sphynx moth when it matures. :) https://bugguide.net/node/view/1028494
