(Spoilers Extended) Heed Ned’s words well for Season 8.

EXTENDED

Winter is still coming. Rejoice while you can, sweet summer children. The Night King has fallen. Winter can’t be snuck up on and stabbed, it must endured. It will take a savvy and capable leader for the Seven Kingdoms to survive. The Game of Thrones is just as much about survival now as was the battle against the AotD.

The death of the Night King and the end of the army of the dead are not the end of winter. The long night of forever darkness has been abated but Westeros/the world is about to endure the longest winter in living memory.

The Stark children have known summer all their lives, and the winter could potentially be equally long. They could live under winter conditions for decades.

When Jon and Dany’s army was at Winterfell, feeding them was a serious concern. That may be partially alleviated now but they will also be marching a thousand miles south in the winter and then laying siege to an entrenched enemy.

Westeros is ravaged by war and the only remaining large scale store of food is at King’s Landing, having been stolen from the breadbasket of Westeros, Highgarden. KL is also the location of way too much wildfire hidden throughout the city. Easy to burn them all, but burn the food as well?

It is possible that the Vale still has stores of food, as they are the only kingdom that has been spared an invading army. But there is still time!

So best case scenario is a reasonable person holds the throne and keeps everyone from starving.

Long live the Onion King, first of his name. He is the hero the realm needs.

New threads are being manually reviewed by the mods. Because r/asoiaf is flooded with new posts in the aftermath of a new episode, often making similar points, your post is more likely to be approved if it is thoughtful and original.

If this is a reaction or discussion about the most recent episode, please take it to the discussion thread.

If it is not about the most recent episode, be advised that it may get a better response in a day or two. If your post hasn't gone live after 30 minutes, you are welcome to try again tomorrow. Sorry for the inconvenience.
