Really miss my fish, ever miss yours?

Discussion/Article

So today is the first time I've been away from my fish for longer than a night. I've made sure my room mate knows how much and when to feed them so I know they are going to be fine, but I didn't think I would miss them while I was away.

When I started this hobby I thought they would be fun/pretty things to look at and care for but now I've come to regard all my fish as my family, beings that i genuinely love and enjoy spending time with. I miss them and can't wait to get home and spend some time with them.

Let's hear about times you've missed your fish or times you realised you cared about them more than you thought you would.

I do miss my fish. He’s kind of funny. He never goes into the plant cup I got for him as a “bed”. He sleeps in the corner. And he always swims to the side of the tank I’m looking at. I don’t know if he’s lonely when I’m gone but he’s a special little guy.

My girlfriends beta defintely gets lonely when she's not been there for a while. Occasionally my gf will go home, feed him, then come to mine for the night. When she goes home after spending the night he goes nuts and is much more active and interactive with her.

Short story. Went on vacation to Puerto Rico with my family and left my GF to watch over my male and female Betta fish that were due to spawn. They both died because the female was egg bound and the male died from depression after the female passed. Moral of short story love them while you have them.

Yes, I miss my fish when I'm away from home.

I have a freshwater community aquarium. I've become pretty attached to my two bn Plecos, their names are Blackie and Whitey lol. I love them just as much as I loved my cat, dog and horses.

I've got a fresh water community too, I've got two dwarf gouramis I've become really attached to, as well as a big chinese algae eater who is just an absolute doofus who makes me laugh all the time. Can't wait to see them.

Ahh but do you say hello when you walk in the door...I lost my Betta a week or so ago and realize that when I come home now, I would normally greet him even though I have 7 other tanks... now I come home and start to say Hi and realize he's not there and it does give me pause...and then I just shout, Hi guys I'm home...mostly to startle my scaredy cat rosy loaches.
