Its been said, but the story. My god.
I've been playing on and off (more on than off) since beta. I have well over 1000 hours in the game. I didn't finish the story until maybe 2.5 years after the game came out. I didn't finish map completion until maybe a year ago. I've finally gotten into the living story/expansions. I did the first season of living story when it came out, and I'm so happy I did. I just finished the second season and HoT. I hated HoT when it first came out. I had trouble getting around, the events seemed long and tedious. The gliding was nice, but didn't add as much as I wanted.
But my god, now that I've finished seasons 2 and HoT, I'm attached to all the characters. Braham getting mad at the commander, my heart broke. I just jumped forward to get the Skyscale from the newest living story, I knew the spoilers, I was fine with it being spoiled. But that first scene... walking up to Aurene, I got emotional. Like really emotional. The only other game thats ever gotten that response from me is Dragon Age: Origins.
Its been a long time since I've been so invested in a story. I wish I had done all of it when they came out.

You will be dragged by the Stop Having Fun Guys but I'm glad you're happy with the characters. I like 'em too.
I didn't like them at first. I though they were just there to fill the character void left behind from Destiny's Edge. But they're not, each one is their own person. Each one goes through so much development.
How DARE people criticise shitty writing! Don't they realize its illegal?!
Here's one.
Critisism of the game should be punishable by capital punishment.
Apparently so should liking the game too. Huh.
I really thought posting how I like the game, in the sub about the game would get some positive feedback.
I've seen much worse writing.
You know how hard it probably is to write for a MMO? Its not like other story telling/games.
This is really the heart of the issue. While GW2 doesn't have the most amazing writing by the standards of video games as a whole due to the constraints of its genre, within that genre it's head and shoulders above most of the competition - FFXIV is the only other MMO I can think of that comes anywhere close, and it still has the classic issue of the player character being a glorified sock puppet for the player that doesn't impact the story very much aside from saving the world on a weekly basis. GW2 avoids this by giving the Commander their own personality and development, but unfortunately that rubs some people the wrong way for one reason or another.
But they are treating the story like a single player RPG? I get it budget wise they have to apend it on alot more then just story but the writing, plot twists, dialog, its all just like any other single player RPG
So, why are they marketing the game on its storytelling if they can't do it properly?
I didn't say they didn't do it properly, I just said it was hard.
This whole post is about how I think they did it properly.
