Has Waypoint/Vice Games made any other comment on Mordhau anywhere? I'm enjoying the game quite a bit, but the "variety" of skin tones and gender options are a touch... limited, and I'm reminded of Kingdom Come: Deliverance.

They're planning on adding women to the game (here's a Reddit post from their Community Manager basically saying it'll take time and they aren't willing to delay the game for it, and an update from April on their Steam forum saying they were still planning on it/working on it... and also saying they'd add a way to toggle them off). I think the "it's hard/takes time" is... not a great excuse.

I couldn't find anything about different skin tones though (other than the Mordhau community being extremely deeply racist). I assume the lack of comment on it from them probably means that they aren't planning on it and that... is also not great.

And none of this is even touched on in the article, which is kind of incredible. I'm very worried that Vice Games is going to just be Kotaku 2.

I know that Kingdom Come deliberately claimed realism as a way to exclude non-white people and then a creator claimed that being from the region meant they knew historically only white people lived there. This might be more benign than that, just a small dev that didn't think past preconceived notions. Hopefully they update the game/ don't be terrible.

It's a shame the writer didn't dip into the unofficial dueling mode (deathmatch servers with a widely adapted homebrew ruleset for dueling) as that has proven to be the true heart of the game for me and everybody I know who is playing Mordhau. It really lets the combat shine and is amazing silly fun. The game also has some serious community issues with racism/sexism, no guidelines or moderation at all, which is a massive bummer, and is worth addressing.
