Looking for alternatives because of currency

Hi Guy, been using YNAB for a couple of years. Last year I took a job in a different country. So now, I have savings and spending in my home country (EGP), salary and spending in another country (KES), and partial pay is via stocks in a third country (USD).

I tried using YNAB to sort through this mess, but it’s been impossible so I gave that up. I now need an alternative as I have been ignoring it for a while and it is starting to take its toll on my finance. Leaving my spending unchecked for a long time makes me really lost and I have saved $0 for the past year.

Please help me with recommendations of similar software, I looked at mint but it also doesn’t support currencies.

Separate budgets within the software, one per currency is the way to go. Even large corporate enterprise financial systems set it up that way.

I will try that. Never thought of that before.

What has your experience been with using different YNAB budgets for different currencies? I’m currently in Shanghai (RMB), working from home for my job located in the U.S. (USD), and getting ready to take a trip to Germany next month (EUR). I switch between budgets at least twice a day and it’s worked out fine so far. When I leave Shanghai, I’ll cash out into USD, enter that amount as a transaction for both budgets, and not touch my RMB budget again until it’s needed.

I am the developer behind LotusBudget, and we just released multi currency support :-). Every account can have a different currency, and your budget and analysis screens use your default currency. Would love it if you give it a try. You can check it out at lotusbudget.com or on Google Play

Hey there!

I was just wondering - how does LotusBudget calculate the exchange rate? Also, if you enter a transaction that happened last week, does it pull the exchange rate from the actual date the transaction happened, or does it take today's rate? Does it also log the rate in a memo so you know for the future?

Thanks!
