A few months ago I posted a rave about my YNAB progress. I've used YNAB4 for 2 years, then moved to nYNAB for 3.5 years. Yesterday, I migrated everything back to YNAB4. And here is why.

When I initially moved to nYNAB, the main motivation was:

  • nYNAB would provide more frequent product updates.
  • I would get to take advantage of the $50/year subscription pricing because I had already purchased YNAB4.
  • Eventually, they would surely add support for the features that I actually need, such as multi-currency support, customizable load repayments, and auto-import for transactions for banks that are not in US/Europe.

I've been on YNAB for 5 years prior. This is the result of 8 years of budgeting. I've started nYNAB 3 years ago after I was finally debt free and could afford it. I decided to start fresh as the pain of migration wasn't worth it for me.

I work as an IT Consultant in an S500 company, so income is pretty decent. It is worth mentioning that I have no relevant college degree in the field and I'm 100% self-taught in IT.

I live somewhere in the middle-east, but my budget is in US dollars because I travel a lot and the value of my home country's currency keeps decreasing. So I've chosen to represent my budget and net worth in dollars to have a somewhat stable view on how things are going. And yes

Hi Guy, been using YNAB for a couple of years. Last year I took a job in a different country. So now, I have savings and spending in my home country (EGP), salary and spending in another country (KES), and partial pay is via stocks in a third country (USD).

I tried using YNAB to sort through this mess, but it’s been impossible so I gave that up. I now need an alternative as I have been ignoring it for a while and it is starting to take its toll on my finance. Leaving my spending unchecked for a long time makes me really lost and I have saved $0 for the past year.

Please help me with recommendations of similar software, I looked at mint but it also doesn’t support currencies.
