Great video. I have been in the restricted club since high school - well until the liberals moved me into the prohibited club.
However, I have only recently started paying attention to this issue. Was the move on semi-autos generally or specific to ARs?
I have seen a bunch of posts on the SKS as well - is this on the “list”?
Reason for interest- while I do not have an AR yet, I do stand to possibly, one day (hopefully far in the future) inherit.
If this went the way of 12(6) handguns if they put a similar prohibition on SKS and AR I would maintain status.... I think...
The entire thing is theoretical. It's based on a comment made by MP Tony Clement in the house of commons. He claimed he had information that Turdeau was planning to issue an Order in Council moving the AR-15 to prohib class. This would make sense if they wanted to make gun control an election issue. Also, it's a bit ironic as his father also reclassified the AR in his day...
However, he made specific claims about a date and location it was to be announced and it didn't happen. Most sensible people always thought it was unlikely they would make any move before the election and definitely no move before C-71 receives royal assent. Any OIC would depend on it's newly created classes 12(9)+ to be able to follow their traditional grandfathering-over-confiscation gun control blueprint.
To make matters worse Bill Blair was tasked with examining Canada's gun control laws and making recommendations. He is reportedly considering a handgun and semi-auto ban. This was already bad enough, although people generally thought they wouldn't make any move until after the election, but combined with C-71 and the Tony Clement statements it created the perfect storm of gun control fears and caused a pretty awesome panic buying spree.
Thank you for the answer. I guess I will not join the buying spree for now.
No worries. Also, to answer your other question, any further prohibitions will almost certainly not affect your existing prohibited endorsement. We can guess this based on the fact that they create an entirely new class each time they prohibit something, the CZ858 and Swiss Arms rifles are now 12(9) for example.
You should be able to maintain your 12(6) class until you die so long as the Firearms Act is not scrapped and rewritten, you renew your license as early as you can each time it comes up for renewal, and you keep at least one 12(6) pistol in your possession...
REEEEEE!!!
-anti gunners (probably)
We put together a little video on the AR-15 and it's different styles and variants available in Canada. Hopefully these things will still be available in the future to our fellow law abiding PAL/RPAL license holders!
Did they officially ban them now?
No, thankfully it's just rumours and speculation at this point.
I thought they had the bill already written up going through the system
The bill going through the system is C-71 which changes background checks, removes some of our automatic license conditions, changes some of the rcmp powers and prohibits the CZ858 and Swiss Arms rifles. It’s mostly unrelated to the (at this point) theoretical AR-15 ban...
Not at all. The ban was a rumour (thus far) pushed by Tony Clement. Who knows if it was ever real.
