Favourite method to keep on track?

As the title says, I'm looking for ways to stay on track. It's been two weeks since I began keto. I was experiencing the complete lack of hunger, but one night I cooked up some sausages and spinach. I ate two sausages, went back for a third, fourth, then fifth and sixth. Which was really odd, as I hadn't experienced hunger and after the first two sausages I stopped, I was so full. Then an hour or two later, it was like my hunger spiked.

I checked on the package and it was 7.9g carbs per sausage. I feel like such a dope for not checking beforehand. This was yesterday. So today, boy the sugar cravings are getting to me. I have caved, just a little, and I'm trying to get back on track. It was astonishing to me that I knew the sausages had high carbs because they triggered hunger.

What method works for you to stay on track? I'll be spending the next few days doing them :)

I just eat meat and green things and don't worry about it.

Yesterday, I went to the butcher and just got steak with no sauces, mince and all meat that had no additions. I think I will just stay away from sausages in general. Thank you!

Why did you start?

Track your food before you eat, remember why you started and commit. There aren't too many tricks here. You either want to commit or you don't. It helps to plan ahead so meal plan, meal prep, look at labels before you buy foods, and decide what's more important to you - caving to eat whatever it is you ate or your health.

This was a very powerful message, thank you! I will print it out and especially keep the last line. Because my health is definitely on the line.

That happened to me with a chicken and vegetable meal that had a lot of sugar in the sauce. That day I ended up having a small afternoon crash and was blown away by the experience. It is so easy to tell when you eat too much of the wrong thing - just recognize it and be more diligent in the future. For m e keep track I do lazy keto, but 90% of the time I east stuff that is already measured like strips of bacon, peanuts. I always do less than 800 calories per meal twice per day and rarely hit the 800 max. Tougher when I am on the road for work but just eat sensibly and try to catch the nutrition info if it is available in the restaurant and always go somewhere with keto options..

Yes, it was startling how my hunger all of a sudden seemed insatiable. I could tell that I had too much carbohydrates by the way my hunger was triggered. I went from feeling full, like a brick was lodged in my stomach, to a weird type of hunger that simply wasn't satisfied by food as such...I ate 6 sausages!

Sausages are annoying! Some of them have loads of rusk and breadcrumbs in. Look out for “gluten-free “ on the label and they will normally be Low carb

Haha! Yes, thank you! They were annoying! These were gluten free as I have a gluten intolerance, one of the reasons I chose this way of eating.

Ugh if you can’t trust a gluten free sausage what can you trust 🙄

I check the label first and enter in my tracker. It does take some getting used to, but I have been a label reader for a long time, long before keto, so I am pretty used to it. My downfall is nuts, so I always portion them out and limit to one portion a day.

It takes time to build new habits, and practice, but they are worth building :-)

I think I will do this. Just check everything the day before I actually cook it. Like I will buy a weeks' worth of groceries and then the day before put them in my tracker. This way I can find out at least one day before if the food has an acceptable carbohydrate amount.

That's an excellent plan when it comes to things like sausages especially. I love them, but they can add up carb wise depending on the brand. I stick with 2 or 3 brands and types I really like just because I am a creature of habit that way. Since they are usually meant for a specific meal, I often skip ahead to the day I plan to eat that meal and log it in.

When I first started label reading years ago, I spent a month reading every label just to form the habit, regardless of what was in it. Nowadays, most of my foods come without labels, but I still read every label automatically.

Eat lots of fat to satiate yourself while waiting to re-enter ketosis. 0 carb cheese or bacon or fatty beef is great for this. High calorie, high fat, 0 carb, ketosis will happen. You've just learned one of the hard lessons. We've all done this before. Welcome to the club!!!
