[PC][1997-2000?] Top down, 2.5D, vehicle combat game (Not Desert Strike)

Platform(s): Windows only as far as I know

Genre: Arcade action

Estimated year of release: Late 90's early 2000's

Graphics/art style: 2.5d, Isometric-ish, pre-rendered sprites

I remember playing a game a loooong time ago it must've been late 90's or early 2000's, on PC. It was a vehicular combat game where you could take command of different vehicles such as a tank and attack helicopter. The objective was simply to fight the enemy forces around the map.

The game definitely had pre-rendered 2D sprites, but of rather high quality, no full 3D (It's not Return Fire).

It looked very similar to the Desert Strike series but the graphics was of higher fidelity and I vaguely remember you could drive tanks and other vehicles aswell, not just a helicopter.

I don't know if it was multi-platform only that I played it on a Windows PC. It's killing me because I've found almost all of my forgotten childhood games but not this one.

Any ideas?

Possibly Return Fire?

No, the game I'm thinking of was not full 3D. It's similar in playstyle.

The game I'm thinking of had pre-rendered 2D sprites and it was a bit darker.

That's very similar! But as I remember it the graphics were a lot better, more realistic.

It's close though.

All I can think of is wargames: https://www.mobygames.com/game/wargames_ On playstation it was vehicular combat, but on windows it was more of an rts, if memory serves. Some of the units are full 3D, while others are sprites.
