I would kill for a newer mirage with some fox3 capability

Pretty sure Razbam have previously said they plan to make the Mirage 2000-5 which will include the MICA missile

droooool plese baguette

Fynek•

That would be amazing really, I am waiting for this with great anticipation. Hopefully they will really deliver on this one.

3
doubleyuno•

I cant recall them saying that. Do you have a source?

https://www.reddit.com/r/hoggit/comments/ape1yl/razbam_will_eventually_develop_the_mirage_20005/

Edit: I should probably add that it's probably quite some time before we'll see it as a) it'll involve almost entirely different avionics, so not a quick one to develop and b) their development roadmap is pretty packed.

SuumCuique_•

I would already be happy with some decent fox2s, the Magics appear to be the most useless modern IR missiles in the game.

1
DrGarantia•

Magics appear to be the most useless modern IR missiles in the game.

My experience cannot be further away from that, they accelerate faster and keep higher terminal velocity than the 9M and 9X looking at the tacview result of some testings I did a while ago, and that extra speed shows in game. They don't pull that many G's so a good lead/solution is more important for them.

9
BikerSid•

My experience as well, I think they are deadly. I just try to make sure I've pulled enough lead on the bandit to relax the G's on my own jet when firing and they track beautifully. Just off the top of my head I'd say they have a 90% plus PK if the launch is in reasonable parameters.

3
SuumCuique_•

The G aspect may be the one, that i am doing wrong. Thanks for the Information. I guess i will have to test them a bit more.

1
Logain86•

Weird, I got 3 kills with them on the hoggit server last night. What's wrong with them?

4
SuumCuique_•

No idea what, they just appear aweful compared to Aim-9s. I am not saying it isn't possible to get a kill with them, but they just feel so much worse to use than 9M, L, and even P5s.

1
Fynek•

They are actually the best Fox 1 in the game IMO, the speed and manoeuvrability that they have is excellent. You should always try to fire at targets above you for better results.

What makes them fail is the radar losing lock so often, but according to a test on youtube, it seems that the radar of the Mirage in DCS is similar to the F15 simplified one in FC3 (detection range is exactly the same even though they are different radars made by different companies) with the difference that it drops contacts more easily, particularly in look down situations (which is realistic).

So if they ever make a Mirage 2000-5 with Mica BVR missile, I really hope they will work on the radar as well (if they have access to the data)

2
DrGarantia•

He is talking about the fox 2, that is, imho the second best fox 2 of all full fidelity planes after the 9X.

On the other hand, the 530D is indeed awesome, like, hitting the target you fired it at max range earlier and at the double speed of the AIM-7 awesome.

Too bad the mirage radar "look down, shoot down" capability is nothing but propaganda, shooting stuff at or above you it does fine, firing the 530 high for extra range and diving down to keep the lock works surprisingly well.

3
Fynek•

Oh sorry my bad i didnt pay enough attention. Indeed i agree with you.

Good stuff best of luck to you sir!

SuumCuique_•

They hired him after he started working on the Mirage? Isn't this normaly the other way around?

6
Cross2fourOP•

I think they are announcing him joining after he's been a part of the team for a few weeks already.

18
OxideMakoAlright, Let's turn and burn!•

Yeah, RAZBAM have said a few times that they hired a new coder and were getting him up to speed, I'm assuming this is him.

14
SuumCuique_•

My first thought when reading this post was "Didn't they already hire a new coder a few months ago?". But i guess you are right, he worked and is now a fix part of the team.

Welcome aboard, love the mirage so far.

Keen to see how she progresses

1
X0RDUS•

I have a feeling RAZBAM regrets ever developing the Mirage. They weren't capable of producing a study-level sim and have been criticized for it ever since.

I do hope this hire can fix its many shortcomings..

[deleted]•

I get the impression that they underestimated how important it was going to be to have as much information, documentation, SME access, and even aircraft access as possible during the Mirage's development. When the Mirage was released (and even now to a somewhat lesser extent), it was pretty obvious that they had a lot of gaps in their info and had to fill in the best they could.

Hindsight may be 20/20 but I can't help but wonder if they would have had a better time if they had picked a aircraft they could more easily get information on from the beginning. Even the Harrier seems to not suffer from the same issues that the Mirage did on release.

5
Sniperonzolo•

Regarding the Harrier, not really, because it's probably one of the airplanes you can source the most information about (unlike the Mirage), it's extremely well documented. Razbam's problem with the Harrier is they are simply unable to recreate something at that level of complexity. Coming from mediocre FSX airplanes, they probably thought they could make a quick buck doing the same in DCS. Hopefully this guy brings the coding skills and attention to detail they lacked so far.

2
Finnskyyy•

What exactly are its many shortcomings?

1
X0RDUS•

to put it succinctly, the systems. lots are inaccurate, incomplete, or just missing. There's almost no failure modeling. The damage modeling is atrocious. They've made advances with hydraulics modeling but still, there's almost no interactivity between systems when taking damage.

Either way, I love the plane, it's always been one of my favorites. I think that makes me even more aware of its faults, though. There's a lot to love about it, but it's always been a 'second-class' module compared to ED/BST/Heatblur standards. I'm really glad to see that they're still committed to improving it, though.

1
XenoiseM2000-5 is babe•

The mirage has been the best module so far, it has offered a great experience on pair with f18 and 14 as far as I'm concerned.

1
X0RDUS•

It's great as long as you don't dig too deeply. When you use it for a while you start to notice all the things it's missing, and it's a long list. Some of it's omissions are just inexcusable... It makes sense, though, considering it was their first plane in DCS. As they continue to hone their craft I'm sure they'll go back and try to bring the Mirage up to the standards befitting a modern DCS module.

2
XenoiseM2000-5 is babe•

You know that's something i wanted to edit in. The fact that it was the first study level fastmover always made me ignore the issues of the mirage. After a time i began to understand how many systems were incomplete and that much more guesswork was involved than i thought, never hated on them because of it, just silently wished said systems would be overhauled one day. Their work on the harrier gives me hope, they needed ED and some other passionate third parties to set the bar for them and that's allright given that they come from fsx. And let's be honest, most fsx addons i wouldn't pay more than 5$ for, very different environment with far lower standards.

2
X0RDUS•

Yea, thats all I meant by my initial comment. If they had it to do over, I'm sure they would have chosen a simpler plane as their first attempt in DCS.
