The how

u/AmputatorBot was already able to scan and reply to submissions and comments in a couple of subreddits listed here. You can now 'summon' u/AmputatorBot in almost all other subreddits.

If you see that someone shared an amp link

And a response from u/AmputatorBot is absent, you can 'summon' u/AmputatorBot by replying to the comment or submission like this:

You: Hey u/AmputatorBot please do your thing

or

You: u/AmputatorBot i need your help

or even just

You: u/amputatorbot

As long as you mention the bot, it should be fine. (just typing amputatorbot won't work tho)

And u/AmputatorBot will show up and reply to the parent comment or submission with the AMP link with the direct link, which would look something like this:

Beep boop, I'm a bot. It looks like someone shared a Google AMP link. Google AMP pages often load faster, but AMP is a major threat to the Open Web and your privacy.

It WONT WORK in a couple of subreddits where the bot is not allowed.

The context

This morning, I received the following feedback from u/zellotron:

Is it possible to summon AmputatorBot in a subreddit not listed above? e.g. with /u/AmputatorBot

I told him no because I was stupid and didn't do my research properly

u/zellotron didn't take no for an answer, and said:

(...) doesn't mentioning a user send them a notification/message though? I was thinking it could listen for these instead of looking at all subreddits.

And long story short, I got it to work! All thanks to u/zellotron :)
