It’s a dog whistle, it’s meant to be ambiguous to everyone who isn’t a Nazi. That way they can say what they’re thinking without really saying it. Of course, as is the history with cryptography, their dog whistles get deciphered and they’re not really dogwhistles anymore, except instead of replacing it they seem to not care and just reuse it even though they’re being really fucking transparent about it.

By the way, the “evil communist” game the guy hypothesizes is literally Red Alert. You also fight communists in Black Ops, Sniper Elite V2, and I think one of the Metro games depending on your choices. The main villain of Bioshock 2 and the Vox Populi are socialists (I think, I haven’t played Bioshock 2 in awhile)

The main baddie of Bioshock 2 was Sofia Lamb, who wanted to force communism by making her daughter an uber psychic that removed all individual lusts or something.
It's an interesting reversal since the first game was about the complete opposite and how that doesn't work.
She's not a communist. She's a utilitarian.
Those two aren't mutually exclusive though. Utilitarianism is just about trying to basically maximize positive effects for society as a whole. I'd say that easily makes sense as something that goes with communism, and at the very least a person who is utilitarian isn't disqualified from also being a communist.
No that's true, she could be both, but I don't think she has even a single line of dialogue which even suggests that she has communist sympathies. I could be wrong, but I don't remember her talking about class, or eliminating private property or anything like that.

Lamb's deal was kind of communism but without any real-world communist ideas or theory. I'm not sure if she was meant to reference something else entirely, but there's a lot of talk of "the people", the greater good, framing Rapture as a family, etc
It kind of came off to me as wanting to have collectivism as a foil to the individualism of Bioshock 1 but avoid examination of a real world ideology the way they did in the first game.

Not OP, but I think communism, as an idea, is fine. I don't necessarily agree with it, but I think the thought process is worthwhile to at least look into and give a chance. Any time it's been in practice? It hasn't gone well.

Did the Metro books give more background for the nuclear war? I remember the games just saying everyone was nuking each other without going deeper into what the reason for the war was.
As far as I can remember, books don't go into detail about the war.
There was a promotional video for Last Light where two Middle Eastern nations nuked each other which prompted NATO and post-Soviet nations to nuke each other as well. Those ME nations aren't named, but they're probably Iran and Israel.
Been a while since I read them but I don't recall the books really going into detail about that.
