Just joined the Xterra world!
Hi gang,
Never posted on here before, but I just bought an Xterra and thought it'd be good to join a community of fellow owners.
Because of my affinity for manual transmissions, I happened upon a 2015 PRO-4X with a stick, 55K miles on the odo. This Xterra will replace my 1991 Toyota Pickup Xtra Cab 5MT, which has served me faithfully for years, but came close to a terrible accident a couple weeks ago and realized I would have perished in such a small, old truck. So I began to look for a suitable replacement. Needed to be a manual, needed to be modern enough to have airbags and crumple zones, reliable and capable of real off road conditions.
I initially looked at Tacomas, FJ Cruisers, Frontiers. Not into Jeep problems and I had a Subaru that crapped out at 100k, so those were out. Didn't even know about the Xterra Pro-4X 6MT, until I happened to see a listing. Checked the pictures to make sure, and a bonafide stick shift actually exists! Not many for sale, luckily one came up nearby and I dropped the hammer.
So anyway, I'm super excited and happy with the new (to me) rig, and looking forward to taking this truck off road, tricking it out a bit, enjoying the hell out of it.
Any tips, tricks, things to look out for with repair, maintenance would be appreciated.
Thanks for reading, see you out on the road!

Yours is new enough you don’t actually have to deal with any of the normal xterra problems- radiator/ timing chains, so all I have to say is welcome to the family and go get it dirty! You can fit up to 285/75r16 tires on it with only very (very) minor mods (called the melt mod if you want to google) which is a 33’ equivalent and will get you pretty much anywhere you need to go.
Other than tires, the first mod I would do is to extend the rear differential breather up off the axle to behind the brake light so you can be more confident when crossing deep water and then change all your gear fluids (diffs, transfer etc) so that you have a baseline and you know for sure they’re good for off road. My 2005 (same gen as 2015) has gotten me into places I didn’t need to be and has never let me down. Broke a CV once but it was my own fault
