[FS] [US-MN] HUGE Lab Decommissioning: Switches, Servers, Blades, DAS, Fibre Channel + More (probably)

US-C

Greetings

After many grueling hours, I finally finished inventory and photos for all my decom'd lab gear.

There's a lot of stuff here, and I'd like to avoid shipping for now, so all sales are contingent on you (the buyer) coming to pick this stuff up at or near my residence in the Anoka/Coon Rapids/Blaine area.

Everything is OBO, but please keep it reasonable. I am trying to get this stuff out of my basement, but I am not trying to get fleeced.

The inventory for each system should be fairly complete and accurate since I tore down every one of these things and peeped at their innards, but if you have any questions or want more detailed photos of a specific portion just let me know.

Album showcasing the fine goods ----> https://imgur.com/a/V6Q4u7S

^(-dramatic pause while you peruse the pictars-)

Special note on parting out/separating components: I am not looking to do any of that at this time. You may not need the bezel, rails, or trays, but that doesn't mean mother server gets to abandon her accessory babies in my basement; the family moves as a unit.

Enough intro, just tell me how much for the lot.

Rough, low retail total: ~$4000

Approximate sum of my just-for-you-locals prices: ~$3000

Special price for someone who wants everything left as described here, a few extras not mentioned, and not one piece less: $2500 $2000 ^(OBO)

my guy, that’s not a home lab. that’s a home data centre

Remnants of several iterations, my dude. No way I would ever run all this at once lol.

i was going to say, don’t think private electrical circuits will run all that at once

Only one system with RAM? ;)

Glws, lot of stuff there!

damn this lack of shipping thing! Too bad a drive to MN from east coast isn't closure, I'd snatch 1 or 2 FS12-TY in a heartbeat

I feel you.

I wish shipping was more economical, but as soon as the cost of the box (surprisingly expensive for servers), packing material, and transport cost get added on, most of this stuff ceases to be a good deal for either person.

The smaller stuff isn't so bad, and I ship all the time, but I'd like to give the locals a chance to snag some of this before I open up the shipping option.

Totally respectable. Good luck on transactions!

Even then, UPS likes to punt the boxes off the back of the truck, destroying whatever's inside. I just shipped one that came back due to "damage in transit". It looked like they threw the box off the truck and then ran it over. Of course insurance claim was denied because it wasn't in retail packaging.

I shipped an r710, I had the UPS Store pack it. shipping and packing only cost me $65. That was shipping it from Minnesota to California. Once you get past a certain size and weight, the price does not really go up that much anymore.

Not sure how that's possible. I shipped a 720xd to Florida earlier this year and every estimate I got was around $100 ad hoc, and only got down to $65 with eBay's shipping discount; this was all with me providing my own packaging even.

Not sure I really trust these people to know how to package a server either.

The UPS store has boxes and packaging specifically fit for Server shipping. The ears were well protected, and it was in a box that did not leave too much extra space, but left both an air gap, and a non-moving server within the Box.

Get setup with a UPS and FedEx account if you sell a lot. If you go to either store, they both have "pack and ship" guarantees, so if they agree to pack it - it's on them if it gets messed up. I shipped a couple servers and some other equipment this way.

Figure about $65-100 for packaging and shipping all in on a server just depending. Generally I prefer FedEx lately, especially as I'm getting a better discount with them, but UPS is alright too.

I'm extremely tempted, but I've seen the power bills from those things before.

The M1000E isn't that bad. If you only run a few blades at a time, you can use two, maybe only 1 power supplies. I've powered on 3 M610 with only one 110V PSU and two fans with no issues.

The chassis itself doesn't draw much and with M620's being fairly power efficient, you're using about the same as equivalent stand alone servers.

4
onenerdyguy•

Doesn't the chassis require 220 hookups?

2
Fozman224 Sale | 14 Buy•

It depends on the PSU's. You can find 110v on eBay. I picked up a pair for $45 shipped and they work great.

Its half the watts obviously but unless you are running 16 blades, you can use one or two. You only lose redundancy.

3
Fozman224 Sale | 14 Buy•

I looked into getting a 220 outlet installed since they are more power efficient but in the end I wasn't using more than a few blades so the difference was negligible

This one includes the newer 100-240v auto sensing PSUs. They're rated for 1350W each on standard 120v residential power.

This is accurate. I believe it idled at only a couple hundred watts loaded with IOMs and no servers on, and noise isn't actually bad either as long as you keep it cold. Just don't make it angry lol

I think with one PSU and two fans it was under 150W for me iirc

The only things I'd really be interested in trading for are some R210ii or R320. Trying to reduce power consumption and noise.
