What if synthetic chemists worked like app developers?

Hello, I’m doing a PhD in synthetic organic chemistry and we’ve built hardware that allows users to prepare drug like molecules in an automated fashion. We’ve come to realize that we approach problems from the perspective of our discipline.

I wanted to ask how app developers think about problems and what common philosophies are applied in the field. Any discussion or good sources would be greatly appreciated.
